Spring rates on pax runflat tires vs regular

I have honda odyssey. They used runflats for few years
run flat tires are heavy. From what I gather the spring rates on pax odysseys are higher because of added unsprung weight
I want to know if this is the case.
Has anyone tried using run flat suspension from mdx on non run flat mdx?
I want to stiffen up front end. 2005-2007 odysseys have wider diameter springs (nor coil thickness but sprinf diameter)
2008-2010 seem to be floating around.

I want to put run flat suspension from 2005-2007 into my ex 2009 which came with regular tires

Tried odyforum but no usefully info there. Honda tech had some good threads on 1st generation odyssey

I remember being embroiled in this discussion (on a different forum) back when the PAX disaster first started; I don't recall it having ever been stated (way back then) the PAX vans had a different suspension. Have you confirmed the springs and such are a different part number compared to the non-PAX vans? If you haven't, you might want to get on one of the online Honda parts sites and look up the part numbers; that will tell you immediately if they were different.

So it looks like 2005-2007 are same springs on all trims. Honda rep said it and h&r tech support confirmed.
2008-2010 have different part numbers for ex lx vs exl touring.

My 2009 is way too soft. I think these springs are much softer than 2005-2007
Difference is that 2005-2007 have wider diameter springs than 2008-2010

I saw few threads where mdx was lowered using h&r odyssey springs(2005-2007)
Really want to stiffen up the front. Mdx seem to have less coils according to pics in service manuals. Hondapartsnow.com and irher sites.

But would be good to know if mdx came with stiffer springs than odyssey 2005-2007

For now I am thinking of buying used on 2007 on junk yard

Why not just buy factory new springs?

I see on bernardiparts.com factory new front springs for a 2007 Odyssey are $101.74 for the set of two; if you want to buy a fully loaded front shock assembly it is a bit more pricey but a heck of a lot easier to do (plus you get new shocks) for $312.78 for the right side and $311.58 for the left side.

2007 Odyssey EXL-T Part numbers:
  • 51401-SHJ-A45 -- Front Right Spring
  • 51406-SHJ-A45 -- Front Left Spring
  • 51601-SHJ-A69 -- Front Right Shock Assembly
  • 51602-SHJ-A69 -- Front Left Shock Assembly

2009 Odyssey EXL-T (PAX) Part numbers:
  • 51401-SHJ-L52 -- Front Right Spring
  • 51406-SHJ-L52 -- Front Left Spring
  • 51601-SHJ-L52 -- Front Right Shock Assembly
  • 51602-SHJ-L52 -- Front Left Shock Assembly

2009 Odyssey EXL-T (non-PAX) Part numbers:
  • 51401-SHJ-L41 -- Front Right Spring
  • 51406-SHJ-L41 -- Front Left Spring
  • 51601-SHJ-L81 -- Front Right Shock Assembly
  • 51602-SHJ-L81 -- Front Left Shock Assembly

New stock are expensive. I suspect new won't help 2008-2010 . I've read on another forum they did the same on 1999-2004 odysseys. 1999-2001 had stiffer spring rates. Around 200(some units) and on 2002-2004 softer 145-150. That's for fronts.

I don't want to lower the van. Otherwise would have gone with h&r 2007-2010

I did have 2005 odysseys and they were better on corners than 2009. But wish I had spring rates to confirm the feel. I have new struts now.. so it's not strut issue.
Really don't feel like dumping too much money now. Have many mods on this van already . Put acura rl 2005-2008 cylinder heads. Got good helo here doing that project.

Replaced my 09 shocks and springs with 2007. Off a junk yard. 80$ for both 115k miles
2005-2007 springs have less coils, 15.6-15.7mm coil thickness. Spring diameter is wider
2008-2010 coil thickness is 15.1mm
2008-2010 are very spongy springs. Like driving a Buick.

Much better feel. Will post updates later but so far seems like s definite upgrade.
Front is 1cm higher. Have measurements.

Didn't feel like posting on odyclub.com. too many troll and imbeciles on that site. And their search function does not work

Well after driving for a bit 2005-2007 springs are a definite upgrade. I can fly off high way exits.
these springs are stiff enough for comfort/racing balance. Pretty sure they are interchangeable with 07-13mdx.
But for now I'll probably look for slightly wider diameter stabilizer bar and call it a day.
Maybe see if I can install rear sway bar on Odyssey.
