Should I take the deal?
Should I take the deal?
Greetings. I have been warring with my Acura dealership over my transmission failing..it is a 2001 MDX. They have finally agreed to give me the new/rebuilt transmission if I pay for the labor..which will be around $1200.00.
The car has 79,500 miles. Any opinions as to whether I should go ahead & fix it or just get rid of the car?
Thanks.

I also have a 2001 MDX, 82000 miles. It is in great shape and is worth its wieght in gold to me. I would pay $1200 rather than buy a replacement vehicle. I am interested to know when you had the transmision recall completed? Mine was done in April 2004. I am concerned that it may also happen to me.
The dealership claims they intalled the oil jet kit back when the recall came out...they are supposed to check the transmission visually (take a pic) & if the tranny doesn't show trouble, install the oil jet. If it does show damage, the recall states they should replace the tranny. I am not a trusting soul...so they could have just as easily installed the oil jet without ever looking at the tranny.
Whatever they did or didn't do..it has failed now. If I was in your circumstance (hindsight is 20/20) I would either dump this car before it happens to you or try to buy some extended warranty coverage.
Good luck.

None of the MDX's have any warranty extension on the trans unless you purchased additional coverage. That coverage is CL's and TL's only. As to just installing the oil jet kit and not inspecting the gear, I'm not sure of any possible benefit (except getting sued if something happened) that a dealer would have to do that. Keep in mind that Acura dealers are for profit independent companies, they are not branches of American Honda with something to gain by not performing warranty service.

Its possible to get a free replacement or discounted repair by talking with the dealership and Acura Client Services. The 01-02 are notorius for it and they know it. But dont expect it.
Calforina Lawsuit changed the warranty to 7 years 9 months from the "in service" date or 109K whicever occurs first
In additon, a recent odometer lawsuit settlement adds 5% to all Honda/Acura warranty's milage extending it to 114K
original warranty was 7 years or 100K from in service date but as previously mentioned MDX is not included......

Show me proof on the trans warranty extensions on the MDX, so I can pass on info.
