Looking at 04/05 MDX
Looking at 04/05 MDX
Hey, just wanted to get some opinions. I'm thinking of buying an MDX. I found a place in GA which is a drive but may be worth it.
Has anyone ever heard of GA car mart?
Here are the two that I'm interested in: Both are the dark gray (I really want that color because I have 2 white's in the family, a friend has a silver and I do not want black)
1) 2005 MDX touring/nav/cam/bluetooth/wood wheel 63K miles
2) 2004 MDX touring 77K miles
What do you guys think? I'm proabably going to have it for about 1-2 years and then sell it. My mom and my aunt have an MDX and I've had many for a demo when I worked in sales and I love them
Which would you choose and why?

I would chose the 2005 assuming the price difference is not too significant. I have an 04 and love every minute of it but i know there are a lot of upgrade to the navi system for 05. Plus it has lower mileage. What kinda deals are you looking at here?
They dropped in price dramatically. In Jan I picked up a 04 touring with RES with 82K miles on it AT THE AUCTION for 16K. And I had to buy it 5 times before Honda would finally give it to me.

i went to them yesterday and looked at 2 of their 2005 MDXs. who did you work with there? did you get a good deal? were you able to talk them down any? we'll be paying cash outright so i was hoping i could get them to knock a couple k off the price. fat chance of that, huh?
My advice, pay the $ for a CarFax subscription and ensure that it has been wrecked before/salvage title
I've seen some of the "non-dealer" companies that are very low priced and say that they do a volume business/buy from auctions, but when you run the Carfax, the car has been involved in a wreck of some type.
From my experience, you can't go wrong with Certified Used, at least if peace of mind is worth some value to you.

I bought my MDX from them...they got a great little business. Apparently all their vehicles are off-lease that they get from the auction. Me and my wife were in dream land in the lot. All Acuras, Hondas, Nissans, Infinite's ect...
We paid 12,999 for our with 60K miles on it in near perfect condition about 3 months ago. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM...make the drive, its worth it.

Ended up getting a Mazda6, MDX will have to come later....
I've bought quite a few vehicles from Acura lease auctions, they all turned out pretty good...just have to make sure it was taken care of and not abused which you can usually tell by the condition of the vehicle, also take off the oil cap and look inside to see any buildup - if there isn't any, they probably did all the oil changes on time......Looks like GA is the place to go for used Acura's!

Not to bad mouth "GA CAR MART" or "GA Best Deals" but be very very careful when buying a car from them. They're known to sell cars with unibody/frame damage. They get most of them from dealer auctions in Florida. You don't believe me... check the carfax on their cars. Most of them come from Florida. It also doesn't always come up on the carfax report. The reason I'm saying this is simply because it's a fact. Many dealers in the Atlanta area know this about them. I'm a dealer myself and I just don't want to see any fellow Acura owners get burnt. I'm at the auction every week and I see a lot of cars that may "seem" to be okay and then once you put them up on a lift your mouth drops to the floor when you see the marks left from frame repairs. It's not just these two dealers, but many others. If you don't know exactly what to look for tell them you want to take the car to a local Acura dealership and have them inspect every square inch before you sign the paperwork.
Yes prices have dropped on pretty much every make/model but when you see one that's ridiculously cheap, well that should be a huge red flag. Bottom line, do your homework, inspect the vehicle thoroughly and think long and hard before signing the paperwork. I hope I didnt offend anyone with this post, just trying to look out for everyone. Thanks

As much as I agree with what you posted, I think there are a few factors that are overlooked.
To my knowledge, all Acura sale vehicles or any manufacturer sale vehicles go through an inspection and cleaning at Manheim auction itself. The auction always reports frame/unibody damage on their reports, even the pre-sale reports that you can look at online before going to the auction. Once they say it's unibody/frame damage, it automatically gets reported to autocheck/carfax for the consumer to see. Once this happens, it's virtually impossible to get that off. I used to go to auctions as well and I see dealers around my city that buy absolute crap and put on their lot for $2-3K cheaper than competitors.
I think that it's okay to buy from dealers like GA carmart or whatever because they go through such a huge amount of cars. They have a very good turnover ratio and mark up their cars with minimul profits in order to get rid of them faster. Their low overhead (no nice building, less sales people, etc.) allows them to sell cars cheaper than the rest, but they are still purchasing them from the same place. It's a good business idea but I can see that some cars may be a little scary.
If making a purchase from far away or if you don't know much about vehicles and whether they've been painted, etc. hire someone to do it for you. Spend the extra $100 for a piece of mind and get a great price!
I've seen countless cars that had clean carfaxes, autochecks, nothing noted anywhere and the whole car's been repainted, up to the roof. You can't put too much trust into these reports.

Manheim has had a bad rash of cars last few months. I just condemned an MDX few weeks ago while doing a certification on it. Also seen a few frame damaged TLs and off brand used cars come from them.
CarFax means NOTHING. Another Acura dealer I worked for years back got into a huge clusterfuck with a customer who wanted to buy a NSX from another dealer and the car checked out by us that it was spotless. Yet there where pictures of this said NSX on NSX-Prime forums of it almost completely destroyed. Car was owned by Honda and it wasn't ever reported.

Two weeks ago I was at Manheim in Atlanta and there was an '04 WDP TL, the car "looked" amazing. I had it on my list and ran the carfax on it, came up clean, spotless.... the announcer is about to start the bidding and guess what? "Unibody/Frame Damage". There was nothing on the carfax report. It came up as a 1-owner vehicle from Florida. So, in saying that "it automatically gets reported..." I'm sorry but you're wrong. I have seen other cars first hand where the carfax was clean and the car did in fact have unibody/frame damage. You got the first part right though, the auction has to state everything wrong with the car even if the CEL is on. I have even heard them state the TPMS light being on lol.
Yes the auction DOES state if it has frame/unibody damage before they start the bidding... but it doesn't always come up on the carfax report. To prove this...

I know this from first hand experience. I took an RX330 in trade, had some paint work but just hood fender and bumper. Ran it through and wanted to make it a Manheim certified since it was a hot car for overseas back then (04 production, black on black, nav, HID's, 18's, etc.). Once they ran it through they claimed unibody. Carfax became cancer at that point.
