Hi, I'm thinking about getting an MDX but I have one problem that I can't figure it out. May be you guys can help me out.

I have a parking in the garage and the only way I can park the car is backwards, meaning that the back of the MDX will be facing the wall. Now can anybody tell me how much space (in inches) from the car to the wall, do I need to open a tailgate?

A 2011 mdx?

 

It's going to be about 20-24 inches from the rear bumper. It will also stick up about 14-18" higher than the roof of the car when the gate is full up.

 

you can always not back in all the way, empty the trunk, and then back in all the way

 

thanks a lot for your answer, but are u sure it needs 20-24"? I only have 14-20", so I really hoped it'll be in this range. lol

 

The dotted line in the rear view camera represents the distance needed to open the tailgate safely.

 

Wouldn't you say that if you backed the MDX up to a wall so the dotted line in the camera view was at the base of the wall, the MDX would be about 20-24" from the bumper?

 

Maybe, but 1.66-2' might be closer to the exact distance needed in the US. I have no idea what distance would be needed in Canada.
