Extended Warranty?

Is the Acura extended warranty worth it? and are they all the same price at all dealers?
I just got a 2012 MDX Tech, and the extended warranty 7y/100K miles quote is somewhere around $1600. I am wondering if the price is fair, or if I should shop around other dealers?

Dealers can set their own price on the extended warranty. Is the price you were quoted for an Acura factory warranty? The dealer we bought our 2012 MDX does not even offer the Acura plans, instead they offer a plan specific to their dealership. I will be buying the factory plan elsewhere via the web.

Do a search on this site and the other one, and you will find several dealers who have proven themselves as having some of the lowest prices for the Acura plan. You can buy anywhere you want and it will be honored at all dealers.

I think Florida is one state that you can not negotiate a different price, because of state law.

Check out this link for some information about additional places to buy the warranty. I sent an email to the dealer mentioned throughout the posts. I think it was post #66 which had a link to his website, and there you can see the different plans and get prices.

His were the lowest I've found. Looks like I'll be going with his dealership.

The price you first quoted from your dealer is right in line with what the dealer in the link I posted for you also charges.

I thought the prices were quite a bit lower, until I realized the example I looked at was for a TL, not an MDX.

Thanks for the info, I just contacted that guy and the prices they offer are 100 cheaper than what I was quoted/offered. I will try to get my dealer to match it, and if not is not a big deal, not worth the hassle IMO.

I think $1600 is worth it. Too many electronics in that car that can go wrong at any time. For how long is it after the original warranty expires?

I purchased an extended warranty on mine two months before factory warranty expired. 6 months later, it pay off by itself when repairs were done on my car.

You may want to give this dealer a try. This is where we bought our extended warranty for our 07 MDX a couple of years ago. By the way they are a brick and mortar dealer and not a fly by night operation. We get our Acuras serviced at their Acura store in Boston.
