2G MDX Nav update DVD
I'm pro-external gps.
My mdx navi maps (2011 version) doesn't show the roads around the lake, but my TomTom Go740, from 2008 does.
I just got a 2016 Garmin DriveLuxe50 LMThd. It's rerouting is much faster when I miss a turn, but I'm still getting used to the button sequence.

I like my 11 MDX Navi with traffic and weather. I only update about every 3rd year because it can get expensive depending on when you update ($199 fall, $149 spring, $99 by summer usually). I do have 30GB of cell data available per month; but, I don't have consistent AT&T LTE/4G cell coverage in the southwest for hours at a time. I usually use my iPhone data/Navi when I'm riding my bike around 50 miles a week. XM radio, traffic, weather, and Navi is a good way for me to travel with the smartphone as a back-up. There has been times when the Navi let me down on an address and the smartphone saved me. It is just easier for me and the way we travel to just put in the phone number of my destination and the Navi system checks the weather and traffic along the way. I even had the MDX Navi reroute me when traffic was backed up on a few out-of-state trips.

I updated mine from 09 to 17 this week. You're not going to see any visual differences just more/updated POI and better routing depending on your area. I'm one of the odd balls that prefers the navi over phone/stand alone GPS not to mention cell coverage is spotty in the mountains for me.
The voice recognition seems somewhat better when it comes to inputting addresses / businesses.

The only pain in the butt with the HD based Navi of the +10 MDX is you have to submit your VIN, Navi unit S/N, and Navi database # during purchase with Acuranavi. Acura will send you the DVD update disk and an one time use pass-code. Once the DVD is uploaded, then the Navi will finish the database upload over the XM satellite network. That can take a few more hours or days because the upload only runs when the MDX engine is on and the MDX has a decent XM signal strength. You need to have the engine on for both parts to load (DVD disks and XM download). I made the mistake and did the first part of the DVD disk update with the engine off. It only took about 15-20 minutes; but, it killed my OEM weak-ass battery.
You can't purchase an used +10 DVD update disk or sell the old one after you update since update disk is specific to your MDX. The older 07-09 MDX Navi systems can upload used disks you can purchase from eBay as long as the DVD is a newer version of the current MDX database.
