2012 headlight - how to keep it off, when engine is off?

I like to keep the headlights on auto mode. However, every time I open the door, the headlights will come on during night time. (I can turn it off but I have to manually do it.) Also, when I turn the engine off, I like the headlights to go off immediately. I already had it program to go off immediately by putting in "0" seconds (or so I thought), but the headlights still stays on after I turn the engine off. I have read the manual twice already and I think I am doing everything I am supposed to do already.

So...
1) how to keep it off when I open the door?
2) how to turn it off immediately, as soon as shut the engine down?

Those are the main reasons why I turn my headlights on manually. It's your only other option as well or just live with it.

I believe as long as you are in your seat, the lights stay on. Once you are off the seat, then the timer starts counting down.

I am wondering about that - when the timer starts counting down. I think it is when you close the door.

Call me petty but the auto headlight feature is probably the programming logic on the 07-13 MDX that bothers me the most. If it were basic halogen bulbs it wouldn't be a big deal (though I would still wonder why the drivers door is connected to the operation of the headlights) but with all the expensive components involved in the operation of HID lights and research that suggests repeated on/off short cycling reduces the life of the components it's maddening! When "Auto" is selected, the lights should not come on until the engine is running.

My auto hid lights in my 04 TSX only (with engine off) came on when the car was unlocked or the driver door (only this door). Might just be an Acura deal.

On my other car, the headlights will only come on if the engine is running. It does not matter if you have the lights on or not. Now, the interior instrumentation lights and parking lights will come on, even with the engine off.

Must be. Acura put a customization feature on, but forgot to ask when to start counting. Me...engine off, headlights off.
