2011 MDX GPS question

I know most GPS have options for routes, such as shortest distance, fastest time, stay on highways, etc.

My wife's MDX is set for MAX on highways and tolls, but it insists on taking her off the highway and thru streets (shortest distance), and sometimes this results in her driving thru areas that are not safe. My cheapo Garmin unit does a better job at this than the MDX.

I have played with every setting, and read the manual, BTW. Any ideas on how we can force the GPS to stay on highways ?.

Thanks !

All GPS systems have some quirks, whether in-car or mobile. The Acura system is only as good as the Navteq maps that are provided. Unfortunately, you're stuck with the way the system takes you unless you know some shortcuts. There are too many "unverified" areas that probably will never be properly mapped. You can always stay on the highway and let the system recalculate the route, but then again it may not be any better. I don't know of any system that identifies unsafe areas, but who knows what they will come up with in the future. I could give you some tips as how to identify unsafe areas, but I don't want to go there on this site.

For the sake of discussion, can we say "34th street and 8th ave" in Manhattan......how would you input that into the MDX system.
