2011 Acura MDX with major tranny issues and only 1100kms
Bought my 2011 Acura MDX back in mid August... I've now had it JUST over 2 months. Only has 1100kms on it...Car has been excellent and fine until yesterday.
While driving home last night I pressed gas as i normally would while driving around 60km/s hr and noticed the revs went high and the car didn't move any faster, and i noticed on Dash it said neutral gear was on, which i thought was weird. I noticed the shifter showed in Drive though. So I attempted to put it into drive, and the car came to a slamming stop very hard as if i had pressed the brakes the hardest possible and the car turned off. Got whiplash not even expecting it. I put it into park in the middle of the road after wards, turned the car back on and went into Drive and drove again. Car acted fine.
Thought maybe I hit something, so didn't think much of it. So I got home about 10kms later. Car was fine. I took car out later that evening, and after about 15kms of driving, it happened again.
This time i attempted to brake to slow down since it showed neutral and the second i touched the brake pedal the car came to a slamming stop. Like all the brakes engaged the hardest possible and slammed to a stop once again in the middle of track and was almost rear ended.
It is a sunday and dealerships are closed and I plan to call Acura tomorrow.
I'm very unhappy right now as I almost got into 2 accidents due to this. Scared to drive the car as it could happen anymore moment and i could get into an accident.
No check engine lights are on or anything. I'm worried im having tranny issues only 1100kms into it when im not towing at all. And im afraid acura will say "to bad no engine codes we cant help you"
And i refuse to drive it off the driveway as it's a huge safety concern as i dont know when it could happen and i dont want to be in an accident so im hoping acura comes to pick it up with a tow.
Any thoughts or anyone heard of this before?

holy crap. that would freak me out. the acura roadside assistance should tow the car to your dealer for free, since its a new car. you have that service for the first 4 years i believe. i wouldn't drive the car until it gets looked at by the dealer. tell them exactly what happened and how your safety has been compromised (which it has) and gladly take the loaner until they figure this out.
its like your car is possessed. first i've heard of anything like this on any car. keep us updated once the car gets to the dealer on a flatbed truck.

WoW !! Ditto on having it towed.
You mentioned speed of 60KM / Hr on the first occurence but no speed on 2nd occurence.
It would be of value to know what gear was in use just before it slipped into Neutral.
If same ... I would first consider that gear wheel to be hosed.
That brake thing is weird - keep us posted.

Can't be / doesn't sound good at all. Should all be under warranty including a loaner while they are looking at yours.
Keep us posted.

Update:
Dealer put 100kms on the car and the issue did not happen for them so they returned the car to me and said to bring it back if it happens again. There explanation is that maybe i shifted it into the overdrive (2) mode, but could not explain why the car would come to a slamming stop while in neutral.
I picked up the car and found my key ring absolutely mangled and scratches all along the fob as if they accidently ran it over. And they had no explanation for that either so if they can't even take care of a key properly makes me wonder if they even looked at the car properly

I have to agree. They should at least replace your key ring and key fob.
Not a bad idea, but don't know if your issue is reproducible.

OP never mentioned if the dealer who looked at his Acura was the selling dealer. Acura dealers have millions invested in their dealerships and they are not going to quibble over a couple dollar case for a key fob. Granted, they do not like to do warranty work as the profits are not as great. I have a relative that owns a American brand car dealership and he can tell you stories for hour upon hour of how customers abuse their vehicles and then expect the dealership to make it right, and for free no less. There is always two sides to the story and car forums are notorious for BS.
