'01-'03 or '04-'06

This might have been discussed before(too lazy to do a search), but I'm looking for some solid info.

I'm looking to get a 1G MDX some time in the Spring. I've heard something about the tranny on the '01-'03 not being reliable; something about 3 shafts vs 4 shafts?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

Get the 04-06, the earlier models did have the same transmission problem as the 01-03 TLs and CLs.

01-02 had transmission problems which were fixed for 2003.

I personally like the 04-06 more for how they look, front and rear lights are better looking IMO, some interior updates as well. Also, if bluetooth is important, the 05 tourings come with bluetooth.

So, you're saying that the 5-shaft tranny(correct me if I'm wrong; can't recall if it was 3-shaft to 4, or 4-shaft to 5) was added in the '03 MY? Which means, only the '01, and '02 models had the 4-shaft trannies?

Yeah, I prefer the look of the '04-'06, too. I think I'll go for one of these, instead!

I did a lot of research when we were looking for an MDX (I used to work for a dealer). I ended up picking up a nice 2003 for my Aunt. The 01-02's had a recall on them that Acura was taking care of up to 100K miles. We have an 03 with 100K and a 04 with 109K in the family, both running like champs. If you do end up looking at any 01 or 02 models, make sure to check maintenance records to ensure the recall was complete...

But yes - I'd go for an 04-06 I'm looking to pick up an '05 in the Spring for myself..

I like the 03 tail lights more... the 04-06 seem too busy. But the y-split dual exhaust is nice..

Ok, I got the '03.

One issue I have...don't know if I'm doing something wrong; when I press the 'lock' button on the remote, the driver's door won't lock, but all other doors will. The 'unlock' button will unlock all doors, though.
