Well for my regular day job i'm a member of the Hawaii Air Nationla Guard, but my dad and I also own a private security company. My annual income comes out to about 90K. I saved some cash for a few months to afford the down payment. I put 5k down and my payments are about $650 for the next 4 years.

I work in the Gulf of Mexico for BP, I've been working in the Oilfield since 1985. I'm single and 38 years old so I pretty much spend MY money on whatever I want! I have plenty of toys; Rhino, dirt bike, 98 model 4 wheel drive, and a few more things I can blow money on.

People are insane to spend 650 a month for a car!!!!!

cash for both ... drive what you can afford and when you want to buy something like a 30K plus car, make sure you have the cake for it... or do not bother...

Yes... divorced, with two kids, my own home, and paid cash...

You are correct with the current economy it is interesting to see the amount of TLs on the road. I had to move out of Cali becuz of the job situation and I am back on the east coast, working. I am a network engineer/ switch engineer working for a financial trans. company. My previous work experience is in the wireless field as a switch tech so if there are any contacts out there it would be much appreciated. I would love to get back to Cali, any offers? I am currently making 50K in northern Virginia.

I'm one of the older folks on this site, and female to boot. I make around $72K a year as a librarian for Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern Virginia. My husband is a systems engineer and pulls down over twice what I make each year. I call our community the "Land of Mercedes and Jags" - it's a gated golf community along the Potomac River near Leesburg, VA, so my TL fits right in. We feel very lucky to live there. I've just had my TL for a couple of weeks, but I'm already extremely attached to it - I just love this car!!! Although I don't normally race it like some of you young guys probably do, I still enjoy knowing that the power is there when I need it. I was seduced by the technology and didn't think twice about choosing it over the other car I was looking at, the Lexus LS330. That has a nice interior, but the "fun-to-drive" factor just can't compare to the TL. Being a good little librarian, I love to research stuff, so I've been enjoying this website immensely - thanks for all the info!

I'm 31 and a partner in a law firm and make six figures. I put down $17,500, which included a $6,900 insurance payment on my previous car which was totalled the week before I bought the TL, and my monthly payment is about $345 a month for five years. I was a bit irked that the dealer wouldn't let me put more than $5,000 of the down payment on American Express, but I understand why they wouldn't want to pay the transaction fee.

If you imply the better economy is the reason for more TL sales. I would say it has more to do with a bad economy since interest rate have fallen (they were higher when things were really good). The fact that people mortgage their future on things like cars is also different. More people borrowing more cash for more toys. Got to keep up that higher life people had in the late 90s. Sure borrow that added home equity for a car...

back in henry ford's day (the first one) it was unheard of to buy a car on time... buying on credit was something people started to do... in this day and age people have 7 year car loans to get the car payment as low as they can get and they are still shelling out some serious cake.

A nice car is fun to have. I looked at other cars but thought this was enough.. If I could afford this why not get something more... In the end it will just be worthless and you need to buy another car. Some people believe WTH I will always have a payment I might as well have a new car all the time and just plan to get a new one every 3 years and deal with it. That is the mentality of some 17 year olds and some 57 year olds. Does not matter.

I'm 27 former systems admin. 54k a year. Now i'm running one of my familys cell phone stores and making a few more dollars than what i use to make. I work 7 days a week from 10-8. I have seen older people looking at me driving this car around 05wdp w/navi. giving me the look. Like must be his parents car or parents must have bought it for him. I've noticed that my generation a few of us are making a pretty nice living at our young age, but are getting hated on from the older folks. My accept that some of us are not little rich kids that get silver spooned or are running the streets pushing weight. Accept that fact that we just figured out the game faster than you guys.

I work in IT for that company in my avatar. $599mo payments and have enough left over for living essentials. Wish I could make more... maybe $100k like most of you. It's what happens when you're at the bottom of the ladder I guess. Despite my situation, I'm still buying the aspec suspension and aftermarket rims!!!

Interesting fact... there are more illegitimate children of NBA players than then are living NBA players (including retired).

Even more amazing, there have been more felony charges brought against NBA players than there have ever been NBA players, and more convictions than living NBA players.

Other than their ability to avoid serious jail time, why do people respect them?

Oh yeah... my living. Professional hitman (it's a growth field )

I am mid thirties, a sales manager for a software company, and I have averaged about 200K the past few years. Was a sales rep before that, and made more in good years. I paid cash for the TL, and do so with cars in general.

Caution - soapbox moment ......If I can't buy it outright, I shouldn't be driving it. Why pay $40K+ (inc. fin. fees) for a 35K car when I can save a while and pay what the car is worth. It's not my duty to make a bank and the dealership more money so I can feed my desire to go faster or corner better. I have been very fortunate career-wise, and I know cash is not an option for everyone, but I'd recommend putting off the purchase until you have a substantial down payment. Makes life much easier. Finance rates are low, but I am just not a fan of debt for depreciating investments, cars being one of the worst.

Off the soapbox - sorry about that....
Many of my peers have MB, BMW, or other more pricey wheels, but I have college tuition (two kids) and a retirement to pay for before I blow an extra 20G for a nameplate. Live within your means, and if the means need work, get to it.

By the way, still lovin my '05 TL. Beat a G35 yesterday on a short jaunt.

IT consultant here making about 85K a year. The TL was hands down the best choice for me. Sure, I could've spent more on a Bimmer or Benz, just like alot of the members on this site. But I was never into that whole image thing like most people in today's society. I could care less that other people drive around in 50-60K cars or more for that fact. I could also care less what they think of people who drive TL's or Honda's for that matter. To each their own. To me the TL offered the best combo of features and performance in the nicest looking body style and at the most reasonable price. That was enough to seal the deal for me.

There was a separate poll on how much people make, so I won't go into that here. I'm an operations research analyst with a large DC-based organization. After mortgage, retirement, tuition payments I then looked at what I could get that would be an upgrade over what I had before, have some neat techie features like NAVI, & be fun to drive. I try to stay out of the "what can I afford" game-- that's the way salesmen want you to think. TL was an easy winner for me. Paid cash (actually out of a home equity loan.)

Wink

I am currently engaged in creative loafing which generally allows me copious amounts of free and discretionary time. Fortunately, the government of the United States of America and one of its member states, on a monthly basis, are kind enough to send me tremendous amounts of currency some of which I utilize to underwrite a lavish lifestyle which includes purchases of exotic vahicles such as my Acura TL. Nuff said!

Reading most of these write-ups is amusing to say the least... Who'da thought that the mechanical engineer of the group would be the "most poor"... I drive the same car as all you people though so I must be OK...

Sorta like the kids who were so proud of their 1510 SATS scores in college... Really whacked them in the nutz when I sat next to them in Calc class every day...

ROFL great thread.... Full of laughs...

I manage money - ran up nice gains in the market last two years - could have used that easily to buy a couple of TL's but decided to lease (can't beat that residual) and keep compounding instead.

I am Graphic Designer who makes around 75-80K per year.

I am also vice president of the investigation company own by my father. We have about 5 offices around the world and cash in about 15 million a year. The reason why I got MDX and TL is for the tax reason.

Well Why NOT...

I have my full time working wife looking for 2 part time jobs to assist me in paying for my TL. If she can land two additional good paying part time positions I can stay at home.. Not travel and drive my TL every day..

I'll keep you all posted on how I make out...

I make 24,000-25,000 a year. I work from home with a partner. Well actually she is my boss. I do Healthcare Retroactive Audits for Hospitals. Right now we got only 1 hospital contract. Working on getting another just as big. ITs Lenox Hill in NY and MEETH (Manhatan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital). She is the one that makes the big bucks sometimes as much as 22k a month. BITCH!! lol.. j.k. But soon i hope after we ge this other contract i can be making around the 30's. And if so in a year more or 2. Maybe get my own contracts. I was also looking at going into Appraisals. But still in the process. But heys.. its a 14 an hour job. not ALOT . but also for every 100k i recover for the hospital i get bonus of 400.00 maybe thats like every 3 to 4 monhts i guess. i dont really count that since its bonus..

I'm 27 and work for the nations largest Organic/Natural food distributor. I have a car allowance, so work pays for the car. This is my 3rd Acura, and my wife and I also have an S2000 and an RX300. No kids, and compared to some of you, a modest household income of @ $100k.
