This is a neat thread. Some interesting posts, I like it. I'm 31 and an airline pilot. I bought my car 2 years ago this month and traded in my 01 CL Type S. I make payments of 500 a month and it's got another 2 years to go. I like a few cars; TLX, Audi S4, Lexus IS350 and even the Tesla Model S, however when the 3G TL was first introduced, I swore I would one day buy one of my own, especially when the Type S was released. So right now I've fulfilled that promise and I still love this car as much today as I did when I first desired it. I'm on a captain's salary so I can afford almost any of those cars I mentioned above however I already have a very nice car and a bigger desire to buy a nice home, which here in Vancouver can be quite expensive. I'm about to get engaged and would like to start a family in the next 2-3 years. That being said, by the time that happens, I'll have paid off my TL and will have no outstanding debts, which puts me in a great position to afford a decent mortgage. Rather than spend a fortune buying a new car, I just spend a fraction here and there to update my car with some tasteful mods just to keep things interesting. So far so good.

Beech 1900. Nothing worth bragging about lol. Will be on course for the CRJ soon though.
I primarily fly out of Western Canada but occasionally have to fly out of Toronto down into the states when I'm on reserve. Haven't recalled going through your sector but I'm sure some day I'll probably make my way through

Pretty big story. A contract worker for the FAA intentionally set fire to an ATC tower and O'Hare and Midway was shutdown for a day.

Yup, looks like he's in need of mental health help as well.
Before going to college I've flirted with the idea of becoming a pilot, always great view from the office! I may still consider this as a second career option...

Well the incident happened back on the 26th of sept. He basically destroyed Chicago center (not ohare or midway tower). They basically had to rebuild the entire basement and replace all the equipment. Ohare and midway managed to keep running by having unique procedures setup with all the adjacent centers and underlying approach controls. Big pita but it worked and kept traffic moving. As of yesterday morning center is up and running 100%.

I guess I will answer the question because I resurrected the thread.
Just purchased a 2007 CBP TL-S
28 yr old Project Manager for a large lighting distributor, I have driven some type of honda accord for the last 10 years, (I have had like 5 of them) I would consider myself pretty frugal which is why I buy middle aged used vehicles - pretty excited for this upgrade though.

If you skim the first page, pretty much everyone was making in the 75k to six figure range, and that was in 2003 dollars. Fast forward twelve years and now a burger flipper or convenience store worker can afford a 3G TL. Kind of sad really.

Yeah, it is always really sad when they came out 12 years ago and the prices have dropped considerably. Makes it hard to sleep at night.

the 2008 TL was a car (believe it or not) that we service here regularly
brakes, tranny flushes, coolant flushes, timing belt and timing belt tensioner
the customer traded it in for a new car....so I bought it
180,000 miles...ALL HIGHWAY and all maintenance up to date (VA to NJ)
it does have an engine tap, either fuel injectors or valve adjustment nothing to devastating
it needs 2 front seats of which I found at a salvage yard (leather torn badly)

There are definitely high income professionals (doctors, engineers, lawyers) all the way to mechanics and the so-called "burger flippers."
I do think many people buy more car than they can afford, but otherwise I'm glad I didn't pay full MSRP for the TL...bought a 06 late last year for about 20% of the original MSRP.

I'm 20, a college student. I used to have a 2001 Plymouth (not even Dodge) Neon and then it got t-boned and there went that car to the graveyard. Spent a good year car shopping, and found this beautiful TL at a dealer in Queens, NY. I worked and worked to save money, and continue to work to make sure she's all good. The 3G TL has always been my dream car and I haven't looked back since I bought it, especially since I never thought I'd ever have one for myself!

That's amazing! I'm an aerospace engineering student at Syracuse University. I worked all through highschool on top of extra curriculars every season, and saved up for a long time. Paid 7800 for my 6speed with 153k, I've got 192k on her now, I'm about to buy my second set of tires for her, and get a brand spankin new aspec suspension for her. I love every second of driving her! However, lots of creaks and rattles are starting to pop up...

I like seeing the engineers on here
Mechanical Engineer, Capital project type stuff for a packaging company.
I bought my TL in 2011 with 89K for $13k when I lived in Houston, Texas, paid it off in about 10 months . It now has 140k and I plan to drive the thing into the ground.

My point was that when the car came out in late '03, I was awestruck by it, put it on a pedestal and haven't felt the same about any new Acura since. I basically have to look outside Acura to recreate that sentiment for a reasonably affordable new/newer car and that's really too bad.

I agree with you. I think it's wonderful that the 3rd gen TL has depreciated otherwise I would not really be able to afford it. $10K is the max I would put on a used car since I need to pay it cash.

just out of curiousity, what are all your occupations? or how did you afford to pay for the tl? it's just suprising w/ the economy doing so bad that there are a lot of people buying luxury cars. i'm trying to figure out if i can afford a 500 a month car payment plus 150 insurance on top of my mortage, and want to know who you all do it.
here's my info:
23, IT director in southern ca about 60k annually. i plan to down 15k, and pay 500 a month for 4 years.

I'm new to the TL world recently getting a 06 3g base model
24 veterinary assistant/student planning to be RVT for now I average around 24k a year which isn't really anything but gets me by for now

I'm an IT guy who works from home and has been lucky despite the bad economy of recent years. I got hooked on Hondas about 20 years ago.... an uncle of mine who I deeply respected bought a '94 Accord, so I wanted to get one, too. Fast forward, and I've since owned three Accords and my '08 TL was a natural step up from the '03 Accord EX-L Navi that i was driving.... the TL doesn't have navi but it's a dream to drive and is aging extremely well. It's just about paid off and only has 73K miles. When the 3G came out about 11 years ago, I thought it was the most beautiful car on the road, and now I have nearly have one free and clear. That's my story and life is good!

With the upcoming debt, I'd really heed below poster's opinion....and if you have to choose I'd make sure my schooling finances are prioritized over TL.
Make sure to check out: whitecoatinvestor.com as well to make sure that you as a future high earning MD does not get shafted by the financial/investment industry. And always save save save!
