Has anyone reversed the manumatic shifter direction in a '07 or '08 Type S?
Sorry if this has been documented already, or if this isn't the right place to post this question... I didn't think this fell under "Performance Parts and Modifications," nor "Problems and Fixes" since whether Acura's forward for upshift and back for downshift pattern is "a problem" is highly subjective.
I searched, and only came up with this thread regarding the TSX:
http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9795008
where rbf351 posted:
just take apart the shifter, and you'll see the wire harness. switch the up and down wire, and your done
btw the wires you are looking for are
2004 Green/white(up) and blue/yellow(down)
2005 blue/yellow(up) and blue/white(down)
they all run to a main harness where the wires change to white/blue(up) and orange(down)
I'm assuming the wires for a '07 or '08 TL Type S auto would probably be different.
Once I'd verified whether this "mod" is doable, then I could focus on switching the plus and minus icons next to the manumatic gate.

I test drove a 2009 Mazda 6 V6 with auto-shift and the shifting was backwards like you want. It was the weirdest thing ever and it made me cut the test drive short because it was awful.
wait no, it was the fisher price interior that turned me off. Damn that thing made my previous Saab feel like a Maserati inside.
back to the point. I guess its personal preference.

No need at all.
oneglory gets it.
Right, and those wire colors are for the wrong car (TSX), and the wrong years.
Agreed; and it sucks that the auto version of the Type S doesn't come with the LSD that the 6-speed manual does. But this TL will be primarily my wife's car, and I prefer her driving an autotragic b/c her manual driving abilities are... *ahem* ...tragic.
Also, my other four cars are all manuals—one of which has a ACT HD pressure plate/Fidanza flywheel combo, and the other has a OS Giken twin-disc clutch.
Trust me, you get tired of driving stick on the street sometimes.
I will definitely share the wire color codes for the '07–'08 TL Type S manumatic shifter, if/when I perform this mod. Probably take pics and post a how-to thread as well.

Funny thing is my wife is a WAY better driver with a manual vs an Auto. Not just the shifting part, but the "paying attention" part too. Ever since she ditched her Accord for a CRX back in the day, her driving skills shot up through the roof and she hasn't had a single "miss-hap" (knock on wood). Last year we got her an 04 Pilot (auto only), I'm noticing her skills are slipping again. It's evidence of the curb rash on RF tires of several of our vehicles now.

The high-performance TL Type-S receives a larger-displacement 3.5-liter VTEC V-6 engine that produces 286 hp at 6200 rpm and 257 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm.
The standard transmission for both the TL and TL Type-S is a 5-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift and Grade Logic Control. Similar to the transmission in the RL luxury sedan, this front wheel drive version features larger gears to handle the high torque output of the engine, yet remains compact. However, despite being more heavy-duty, the transmission is more compact than the previous 5-speed automatic. TL Type-S models have a more aggressive shift program than the TL, as well as have F1-style paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. The Sequential SportShift feature is programmed to provide smooth downshifts by "blipping" the throttle between gears, matching revs and significantly improving overall driving smoothness.
Optional only on the TL Type-S is a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that is coupled to a limited-slip differential to help enhance traction and dynamic performance.
Acura's commitment to low emissions continues for 2008. Both the 3.2-liter V-6 in the TL and the 3.5-liter V-6 in the TL Type-S meet stringent CARB ULEV2 emissions requirements.

Ok...so I know my post was not helpful...but glad some people got a good laugh.
On a serious note, I DO know exactly what you're talking about...I've rented cars with tiptronic and honestly have felt like whatever their configuration was for going up or down with the gears felt abnormal. I figured it was something you'd eventually just used to if it was your car. I think for me...something about hauling azz and shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th seems the most natural so a + got UP and - going down would feel normal to me. Maybe not.

Got The Midas Touch
Maybe its because my first experience with manumatic was in a BMW 5 series which had the controls opposite that I feel this way but to me I have and still continue to find the TLs manumatic counterintuitive with the way it works. I do get that up to upshift make sense but to me it feels more comfortable and makes more sense that when accelerating you want to pull down to upshift since gravity is already pushing you back with acceleration insead of pushing up against it to upshift .
