Just how much of an issue is the rear without a camber kit?

The negative camber actually helps in handling but is enough @-2 degrees to cause faster wear on the inside of the tires

Could you put a spacer on the bolt to push the camber out? I remember in my old Acura CL, the rear, I just put a washer like piece (different thickest) to push the camber out. the stock bolt was still long enough to tighten it up.

I was talking to the service manager yesterday about the camber being off. He runs his cars at -2 degrees camber. He says that the tires may wear a little faster but the gains in handling outweigh the tread wear. Toe-in is what will eat tires up quick

Stew4HD - noticed you have this on your AWD. How's the does the RSR spring ride? I was looking into H&R but their spring only shows for the FWD and not AWD.

The ride is stiffer than stock, for sure. It does border on harsh at times. The main street into my subdivision has some dips in it.. I can feel the difference on those. It doesn't bottom out but is stiffer.

That said. overall, it rides just fine. I like the look too much to swap back.

I remember seeing another post on this forum where they lowered a TLX at a dealership on H&R springs. The guy was saying that on previous generation TLs, H&R had different springs for the FWD vs the AWD. If Stew4HD put the RSR springs on his AWD, im sure you can do the same with the H&Rs. No word on when/if H&R plans on releasing their AWD version of the springs
Here is the link to the H&R TLX https://acurazine.com/forums/tires-w...wheels-927208/

I called H&R, there's no ETA but said it's being worked on. I rather get springs that were make for the AWD instead of all platform, due to different spring rates that might differ from the models.

Yeah, I definitely understand. I don't think any thing in the design department will be different, but only the spring rates as you mentioned. Don't know what your budget is, but another option will be RSR coilovers. I know that Mike has those on his AWD car and can probably answer more of your questions on that. They are likely going to be available any time now. If I remember right, the price is around $1900

I will definitely look into the "AWD" springs to see if there is any difference. The springs I installed fit right in and side by side, I saw no difference between stock and the RSRs.

I see Stew mentioned that he did not remove the front spindles to install his springs, can anyone else confirm this? I thought it was weird in the walk through that the spindles had to be removed, but I haven't attempted the install on this car.

I've installed probably 20+ sets of springs, some on cars with similar front shocks / spindles, and it was just a matter of:

1) jacking up entire front end
2) removing sway bar end links,
3) removing that bottom strut body bolt (keyed to spindle)
4) rapping the spindle with a BFH to break the rust free, spindle should drop while the strut stays hanging.
5) removing the top strut bolts
6) sliding strut out

Again this is what I did on a different car / model. So not sure if it's possible on the TLX.

If anyone has feedback it'd be greatly appreciated.

I did disconnect the spindle on the first one I did and then saw it wasn't necessary after I did it.

Any updated photos? Did the springs settle more after a few weeks of driving? I know most will settle a little more and actually be lower.

Thx!

Sorry no photos but after 1 month, the total drop is about 1.2 inches all around. Hope this will help.

Mine appear to have dropped a little more than 1.2 inches. the rear is pretty much 0 finger gap.

Anyone else? or is the angle of the photos mike provided just becauase he was taking the photos lower to the ground?

I hear it too, the car drives fine but I do hear a little bit of a noise from that same side, I figured its the springs trying to settle in..

I found out today its the front strut mounts.

I have gotten them replaced already and they still make the noise after a few days.

Not sure if anyone has a fix for this..

Needing some help with this. Im using this DIY to install my coilovers and im stuck on the ball joint step.

I've never removed ball joints so this is new to me, but am I just sticking the "fork" tool in there to wedge it out, then tighten the nut back down on re install? It doesnt look like it would need to be pressed in but dont wanna take it apart and then not have the right tool to press back in.

Thanks for any advice.

No press needed for this, just get them real tight.

Be extra careful with the rubber boots on those. If you tear them, replace them

So did you just hit the control arm portion down to get it to separate?

I'm to the point where I think I may just pay for someone to do the fronts. I had to put it back together since I have an appointment at Acura this AM for them to replace my brake pads for the 2nd time in 2 months. I've been quoted 80 a corner to do them else where but asked the dealership just now and they said 250 a corner

Gonna give it another go later today

No, you need one of these:

http://smile.amazon.com/Specialty-Pr...+arm+separator

You might be able to rent one from your local parts store, depending on where you live

Thanks Stew.

I rented that tool yesterday but I guess the one I had was to thin. I had about 300 worth of rented tools yesterday just trying anything and everything. All the parts stores I go to had "N/A" for most replacement parts for the TLX. I'll go rent the thicker version and see what happens.

FYI, for anyone attempting this DYI, according to below video you don't have to remove anything on the front suspension except the wheel speed sensor clip and sway bar end links.

I'll probably give it a go in the next couple of weeks and confirm this.
