ZDX Monthly Sales Thread

Last month, the ZDX sold 79 units. Granted, it debuted on the Dec 15th but this does not look good in terms of meeting the 500 sales a month.

I should say that I contacted every dealer in my area & none of them actually had a ZDX for sale, they all only had 1 Advanced Package demo to show people. This may have had an affect on sales ...

On a side note: the Accord CrossTour sold 2,079 units.

Yeah, I don't know if I would even take this month into consideration.

How about we start judging the sales of this car when dealers have a couple more cars in inventory? Jeesh!

On a side note, Acura's release of the ZDX thus far has been considered a "soft release"...March seems to be the month where you'll start to see more sales as that's when dealers will have more than 5 on the lot and it'll also be the month when the ZDX gets a little push from a marketing perspective.

Agree. There's no product out there to sell. As the OP said, most dealers seem to only have one and they are not selling it so they can use it as a demo. Frankly, I'm surprised they even sold 79. Most have been to people with inside track to Acura or something.

I did finally see a ZDX commercial on Sunday (1/03) afternoon during the football game on FOX. Hopefully the word will start to get around now.

172 units ... way below the 500/month they were wanting but in all honestly I am surprised since the 3 dealerships in my area still only have the 1 demo to show & not sell.

Saw one at the dealer when I got my oil changed but didn't have time to gawk.

Got family in Rowland Heights, but hate driving on 60.

Cool 159

159 units for February ... if they were only going to offer 1 demo per dealership, perhaps they could have lowered their sales goals a bit ...

The ZDX is going to be a low volume seller. However, it does not cost Acura any more for it's production because its based on the MDX platform and many of it's amenities are from the parts bin. The only thing new is the transmission, 6-speed, which will wind up on other Acura models.

It's basically an MDX that they mark up for several $1000s more.

Sorry, Jaboo, but that's simply incorrect. Many of the underpinnings may be from the MDX parts bin, but all you have to do is sit in a ZDX to see that everything visible is completely different. I wouldn't be surprised, in fact, if there's not a single part in the entire interior common to the ZDX and MDX...

I agree. I sat in both the new ZDX and MDX and their interiors are very different. They might share a steering wheel and some seat belts, but the two vehicles have very different interiors.

That being said, I'm sure Acura will make a profit on the ZDX, thanks to sharing a platform with Acura's most popular model.

I ordered one recently too at the beginning of April. . .the sales person told me it could take 90-120 days .

A week after I placed the ordered, the sales person told me it would arrive in about 6 weeks.

It is now due in about 2 weeks

My Salesman told me that in May the sales person will get some kind of kick back on each ZDX sale so expect them to push this month. Could use it as bargaining power too if your buying one.

Just wait until a new RL comes out when the ZDX design is 3+ years old

If I *had* to go buy a new $50k Acura today, I would probably pick the new thing (ZDX) and not the 5+ year old (RL) thing.

Additional models with year-over-year increases included the CR-V, up 16.9 percent with sales of 16,041 and the Pilot, up 10.0 percent with sales of 8,986.

"June brought impressive double-digit sales gains for Honda's Accord, Civic and CR-V models," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. Wink ZDX Beats Sales Goal in July

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted July sales of 112,437 vehicles, a decrease of 5.6 percent, based on the daily selling rate*, the company announced today. American Honda year-to-date sales reached 706,346, an increase of 9.4 percent versus last year.

Honda Division posted July sales of 99,420, a decrease of 9.7 percent versus July 2009. Honda trucks posted sales of 44,823 up 23.4 percent, led by the CR-V, up 0.9 percent with sales of 20,058; the Odyssey up 37.8 percent with sales of 9,711; and the Pilot, up 45.4 percent with sales of 9,570. The Accord was the top-selling Honda model for July with sales of 25,386, followed by the Civic with 23,231.

"A year ago the 'Cash for Clunkers' program began and sales of fuel-efficient Honda vehicles picked up quickly at the end of the month," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "Although July sales declined versus last year, our sales increased compared to June 2010, which is a positive sign."

Acura Division posted July sales of 13,017, an increase of 44.7 percent versus July 2009, and year-to-date sales of 74,134, an increase of 24.1 percent. The RDX posted record July sales of 1,708, up 216.9 percent. The MDX was the top-selling Acura model for the month with sales of 4,194, up 63.4 percent. The TSX also posted strong sales, up 39.9 percent.

Sales of the turbocharged RDX crossover SUV were 1,708, up 216.9 percent compared to July 2009 sales, which helped push Acura total monthly sales to an increase of 44.7 percent based on daily selling rate*. With 13,017 units sold for July, overall Acura yearly sales have totaled 74,134 - an increase of 24.1 percent.

"In an era when consumers are downsizing, the right-sized RDX crossover SUV is proving to be a popular choice," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "The RDX's redesign for 2010, combined with its strong turbocharged power, has really boosted sales of Acura's smallest SUV."

The newly redesigned MDX luxury SUV continues to be one of the most popular choices in its segment, as evidenced by a 63.4 percent increase in monthly sales. With 4,194 units sold, the MDX was again Acura's best selling model. Combined, Acura truck sales totaled 6,480 units, up 108.7 percent.

Acura car sales were led by the TSX sports sedan with 3,242 units sold, an increase of 39.9 percent. Closely following in sales was the TL performance luxury sedan that tallied 3,123 units, a decrease of 9.1 percent. Overall, Acura car sales totaled 6,537, an increase of 11.0 percent.

Interesting that the ZDX in July 2010 outsold the RDX from July 2009.

I think Acura is finding that people are starting to look at the ZDX as a sedan alternative rather than just an SUV alternative. If this continues to happen, sales will continue at a healthy rate.

You might be right. I'm still thinking Acura would be wise to advertise it more using the opportunity to explain that. The ads they ran when it first came out seemed useless to help explain it's benefits

...and their sales staff. We were thinking of selling our 2006 MDX and getting a 2010 MDX. While on the lot, we looked at the ZDX and my wife literally needed a bucket for her But the salesman was pretty much ragging on it for not having the space efficiency of the MDX and said Acura has a very small window for their target audience with the ZDX.

Now we're thinking we can just keep the MDX for its 3-row functionality and cargo room and get a ZDX as our fun car (same purpose of our Mazda 6). Granted we're about 2 years out now from pulling the trigger (I'm still enjoying my 6), but this is the plan.

Acura needs to spin the ZDX as an alternative to the TL/RL...

Post 428 for August

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted August sales of 108,729 vehicles, a decrease of 30.0%, based on the daily selling rate*, the company announced today. The decrease in monthly sales reflects elevated August 2009 results from the federal government's Car Allowance Rebate System, or "Cash for Clunkers." American Honda year-to-date sales reached 815,075, an increase of 1.5% versus last year.

Honda Division posted August sales of 97,195, a decrease of 33.4% versus August 2009. The Pilot and Odyssey both posted sales increases, up 13.1% and 8.7%, respectively. The Accord was the top-selling Honda model for August with sales of 25,148, followed by the Civic with 22,803. August 23rd also marked the start of sales for the all-new CR-Z sport hybrid coupe.

"We've known that August comparisons would be irrelevant due to the 'Cash for Clunkers' program last year,"
said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "The good news is that we continue to see increasing demand for Honda products as customers seek even greater value."

Acura Division posted August sales of 11,534, an increase of 24.6% versus August 2009, and year-to-date sales reached 85,668, an increase of 24.1%. The MDX was the top-selling Acura model for the month with sales of 4,386, up 61.8%. The RDX also posted strong sales, up 75.1%.

Wow, ZDX sales look pretty good compared to what quite a few of my collegues thought this "was the answer to the question no one asked" like the BMW X6. I'm impressed.

Frankly, IMHO, the ZDX looks much better in person than in the publicity photos. And the interior is gorgeous.

Does anyone know if there where huge incentives back in July that caused this temporary increase in sales??

Here in Canada I assume ZDX sales are going to increase being they have been offering up to $8000 factory cash back in certain provinces and $7000 across most of the country along with special lease/finance rates. I can see why here though as I counted at least 19 ZDX's on one lot back in July.

Only 156 ZDX sold in November, while TL sales increased.

I went against the flow by trading my TL for ZDX. On a positive note, my car is now more exclusive.

Personally, I like the fact that these vehicles aren't flying out the door. As AlCan mentioned, it just makes it more exclusive. According to my sales consultant, Acura is only planning to produce 3k for 2011, which I guess matches 2010 sales.

3K to 4K is a good number to keep it exclusive.

This car just gets so many looks. Every time I park my car I'm extra careful to park it in a well lit and further away spot so that I won't get scratched. As I mentioned in another post, someone intentionally scratched my ZDX.
