Transmission problem

Hi,
First real post so bear with me.
We bought the ZDX four days ago and drove it home, about 550 km. Sometimes I could see that the RPM was fluctuating (ie dropping 300 revs and then a half second later back on 2000 rpm again).
This only happened on low RPM's, but I never really pushed her to the 4000 - 6000 rpm any longer periods either.
From what I can read in here (or the MDX sub forum) it's looks like a ATF drain-and-fill x3 could take care of this.
Or have I misunderstood the reason for the 3x spooling?
If that doesn't help, what can be the reason for that behaviour?

To help owners in the future who experiences the same problem, a complete flushing of ATF DW-1 is the way to go.
  1. Buy 12 bottles
  2. Drain and fill the same amount you got out, approx 3,6 bottles
  3. Start engine exercise all gears, neutral and reverse. Easiest is to drive a couple of km
  4. Drain and fill again, redo step 3
  5. Drain and fill again and everything is good

Have you changed your timing belt? Otherwise it's time for that....

While water pumps are likely not as cheap as they used to be, then neither is labor. I assume it’s still a good idea to change it while everything is already apart. I think timing belts now come in kit form, that includes all the pulleys that could suffer bearing failure (?). Nothing as galling as having to waste over $500 on labor to change an overlooked $20 part.

I totally agree with you here. However i can't seem to find a ready made "kit" with water pump, belt, pulleys etc from a trust worthy source. Buying no-name Amazon gear seems like a rather too big risk for me.
Is there an Acura Timing Belt Kit to buy?

Buy Aisin kit from Rockauto, this will be your best option. Otherwise buying individual pieces from dealer is gonna cost you a lot. Also there is also a 5% discount for rockauto you can google it (put the code in "How did you hear about us" field at the bottom during checkout).

Pump likely sold separately. ZDX V-6 motor parts probably common across Acura/Honda spectrum. Personally, I would only buy authentic Honda/Acura parts (regardless of cost). Some may become unobtainable soon enough (back in the day, if your car was over 10 yrs. old and needed a model-specific part, the dealers ‘washed their hands’, and you were SOL).

Awesome, thanks for the link. I'll order that kit, it seems like it is highly recommended.

Anyone knows a matching touch-up pen/can for Acura Graphite Lustre Metallic?
