Hi everyone,

I'm stilling waiting Acura engineers to work on this problem in my ZDX. It's been almost 2 months since I reported this to Acura. Basically I hear a ringing noise when I accelerate the car.

After I recorded the sound, it seems that it's a ticking noise.

The first 30 seconds or so is at the bottom of a hill. The next two minutes is going up the hill (not steep). The knocking sound you hear is my iPhone flip flopping side to side in the plastic compartment by the center console. You can also hear the turn signals. Otherwise the ticking sound is fairly audible in the background.

Two observations upon listening to the clip: first, the ZDX is mighty quiet on the inside; and second, to be honest, the only thing I'm hearing is a very smooth running V6. I really don't hear anything unusual in the clip at all.

Maybe others will pick something up in listening to it.

I have been listening since you posted your problem and haven't noticed anything. My wife drives it more as she still works but says she hasn't noticed anything and she drives up a long steep hill every morning when going to work. I think its called Chilco climbing up to Mariner Way in Coquitlam. I believe you know this area from some of your other postings.

Listen in this case for the ticking sound, which I believe is related to the ringing sound I hear in an upright driving position. Crank up the volume to the max and/or use better quality speakers. The noise is subtle. I find that on my high end Toshiba laptop I can hear it clearly, but on my VAIO not so much.

Yes the interior of the ZDX is quiet... that's why this noise is so much more apparent.

 

Just so no one thinks I'm crazy, I have an 09 MDX (still have it... wife's car) that I put through the same motions as my ZDX, as far as driving up the hill and going on the routes that I normally take. No ringing sound at all. With the ZDX, I can consistently produce the ringing noise which is during acceleration (from 2nd gear and above) and going up hills. Even going downhills if I press on the accelerator hard enough (but not too hard), I can hear the noise.

 

Sorry, I couldn't hear anything except your iphone banging around. If I turn up the volume on my speakers all the way I'm afraid the iphone noise will pop my speakers(which are not very good). I'd suggest you have someone drive and see if you can isolate the pinging by moving the mic around. You might get better results. Good luck.
I have a '10 ZDX with 4200 miles and haven't heard the noise you describe, so maybe yours is an isolated case? It drives me nuts when I hear an unidentifiable sound in our bank vault quiet car, I sympathize with you.

 

Anyone who has heard the sound clip know what the ticking sound could be?

After first reporting this issue to Acura 2 months ago, they still don't have a fix. I'm not feeling optimistic about Acura... actually quite disappointed.

Where can I go to get this sound diagnosed and fixed? I live in Vancouver, BC.

If someone can recommend a good and reliable mechanic, that would be fantastic. Thank you.
