Potential ZDX purchase

I'm about 48 hours away from purchasing a ZDX. Just putting the final touches on the deal. It's a CPO 2011 Advance with about 36k miles. I'm getting it right about market value I think. It doesn't have the running boards but does have all weather mats. Paying $34k before 10% tax. Gonna negotiate an Acura Care Warranty extension to 8 years/100000 and am hoping to pay $1000-$1400 for it. It seems to be in pristine condition although I'm not taking any chances and am taking it to a mechanic to check out before I sign the dotted line.

Can anyone think of anything I should have checked out specifically? I've browsed and read through quite a few threads here over the last week, but didn't see anything concrete that should be looked at.

Also, does the price seem close to fair market?

I bought a 2010 ZDX with Advance about 6 weeks ago. No major issues so far. Warranty is a beautiful thing.

i think that is a decent deal, always get the warranty, it is worth it

I agree. I don't think it's a great deal by any stretch, but it's decent.

I'll be interested to see what silly first offer they'll make on the warranty.
The info alone I've gotten here on the forum about the warranty will save me money.

Just picked up my 2011 ZDX Advance CPO Grigio/Umber with running boards for 33800. Very clean with only 17K miles on it.

I would push for them to install the boards for you at 34K.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of the running boards. I tried a couple of ZDXs with the boards and they just hit my pants and got on my nerves. Then again, I'm odd.

Then I'm odd too. My wife and I drove a 2010 Tech that had running boards and I loved the look of them but we weren't fond of using them to get in and out of the car (a process which is a science to begin with). Then we drove the 2011 Advance I'm attempting to purchase and it was like night and day. It was appreciably easier to get in and out.

I loooooove the way the running boards look, but the utilitarian aspect was not just nil, but negative.

Lol the offer on the 8 year/100000 extension was $3000!!!!!!

How do I get them to take $1200 now?!?!
Guess it's time for more hardball.

Holy sh*#! I was quoted $1888 for that and $2151 for the 96/120000.

Not sure but couldn't you buy it from another Acura shop?

I believe that with a CPO purchase you have to purchaseit through the dealership you are buying the car from at the time of purchase. Could be wrong about that...

New offer from finance of $2290 for the 8yr/100000.
Not good enough.

heh) its really not hard. For drivers side you open the door, step with LEFT foot on the board and then you step RIGHT foot inside the cabin, and then left foot inside.
Same witj getting out - you gotta step on the board with one foot and then on the ground with another

Extra Warranties are a major profit point for the dealer. The dealer pays a very small amount for the "special" warranty, even on a CPO car. The CPO car itself is not that much of a deal. The dealer will certify the age, number of owners of the car and then do an in-shop inspection, looking for collision damage or other NON oem equipment or alterations then "certify" the car. I doubt that the dealer or anyone else has done much more detailed inspections than that...things like compression leak down tests, or anything that requires component disassembly. The CPO car probably has all the fluids renewed and the maintenance computer reset to zero, and then the car is ready to sell.. The dealer has paid "dealer wholesale" for the car, probably from the Acura leasing company. At best it is a "thin deal" for the dealer to merely turn the car over, and it is likely the dealer has a requirement to accept a number of the various models from the Acura leasing arm, to resell. Now the dealer is "stuck" with the ZDX, a car they couldn't sell when it was new. And they have a used one on which they will barely break even if it sits on the lot for a week or more. So the warranty is an opportunity to make big bucks on the sale...well, MORE bucks on the sale. My guess is the warranty costs the dealer nothing, or very little. The rest is gross profit for the dealer on the sale.

I was in the car business some years ago. At the dealership I worked for, there were always "ad ons" that were dealer installed, and the profit margin for those items was enormous and the salesman's profit on those items was gigantic...often the commission on a used car sale was more from the warranty or other ad-ons than from the car itself.

In pondering the purchase of my own ZDX, one thing I want to know is what the high mileage reliability is for any of these cars. Since the ZDX is on a SUV platform, how well does that SUV perform over, say 100,000 miles? What are the problem areas, what are the failure areas?

If anyone is even remotely thinking of paying anything near used car retail for one of these cars, you should expect to get a warranty, since the car will still be "young" in terms of car age. I have no idea what the Acura CPO basic warranty is, but what anyone needs to know is how the car will perform AFTER the basic warranty period. My guess is the CPO warranty will probably be 3 years and 36,000 miles on top of whatever is there.

For my part, if I learn that Acura's generally develop serious component failures after 75,000 miles, I will probably buy something else. My guess is that Acura's are as problem free as any car is, provided the vehicle is properly maintained throughout its life. My experience is that most people do not want nor will maintain their vehicles properly throughout their lives because it cost money in shop labor and materials to do so.

Well, it's done! Purchased today. I'll post to the Owner Sign-In right now. Thanks for everyone's help!

I ended up declining the warranty. They simply could not match the price I was getting from Bob Leab at Hyannis Honda. The guy is amazing. So very helpful.

You're not the only one...I think they detract from the lines of the car, and for me they would just get in the way due to I'm 6'8".
