It turns out that the 2010 ZDX I was looking at was sold at auction -- twice.

Once it was sold 04/12/2010 and then sold at another auction on 05/05/2014. The dealership that is selling the car now bought it at that latter auction. Should I be concerned?

 

you definitely should be
atleast look for a condition report on both auctions (gotta have someone with access)

 

I don't know anyone with that kind of access. As far as I know, I only have CarFax.

 

well you can ask the dealer to give you the condition report from the last auction

actually I missed the dates in your first message
if the first auction was at 2010 and second was at 2014 it doesn't really indicate a problem
shit happens when there are few months between two auctions

but keep in mind that auction cars are usually far from mint conditions
sometimes dealerships prep them well before re-selling, but sometimes they sell them in the same condition they got them at the auction

 

This car is a Certified Pre Owned. Does that help the situation?

 

CPO is usually better than non-CPO but it doesn't guarantee that the car is mint

but as I said 4 years lag between auctions is OK, nothing wrong with that

 

Okay, I will think about this and maybe see if they can throw in an extra warranty.

 

Heads up, my ZDX might be getting traded in soon... The dealer I'll be trading it into ships cross-country...

Mine auctioned twice also, and it IS pretty much 'mint', though while only 15K mi. on the clock, there were no service records anywhere, and it is obvious the tires were never rotated (Acura CPO car, but dealers never spend more on prep then they have to). Regardless, I think Acura dealers are just leary of putting anything on their used lot that has such a poor sales history, especially if a returned lease vehicle (like mine).
