I have two door dings, close to each other, that appear to have damaged the clear coat and not the color coat. What I'm wondering is if this can be repaired? And if so, do I hit a paint shop, or a detail shop? TIA.
I took delivery of my new black ZDX last Thursday. There were some were a lot of exterior defects.
Just got back from my dealer to drop off my car.
1.Multiple clear coat irregularities/chip/etching/med swirls: mainly on the hood, single spot on the roof, single spot rear passenger quarter panel, med deep swirls on rear top edge right side deckled.
2. Lower side skirt moulding mis-alignment
3. Front bumper cover paint chip
4. Rear decklid small ding: left lower corner- that I (surprisingly since i’m OCD) missed at delivery, but were captured on camera at time of delivery).
The decklid swirls and misalignment lower panels were noted at delivery and photographed by sales who facilitated getting me into service today (instead of the initial offered mid-July date b/c of limited loaners). Sales provided me with one of the pre-owned 2025 MDXs with 3800 miles on it.
Hoping that all will turn out well.
Amazingly- my selling dealer did indeed get the clear coat and paint defects remedied. They sublet out to Caliber body shop next door. They had the car for about 2.5 weeks. Looked pretty good when I picked it up. I did notice a single pinpoint spec that I initially thought was dust spec, but turns out it was white dot showing thru the paint.
I’ve reached back out to Caliber and the dealer, but no one has responded.
I would just touch them up unless they are super unsightly.
The clear coat is actually relatively thick. You can do a test by wiping alcohol on the dings - if you can see even color, the damage is clear coat only. Then dip a little clear coat, and even out the surface using the foam brush.
Happy to report that I got the ZDX back from the dealer. This had to re-do the clear coat on the top of the rear decklid and also on the hood where there were 2 dots of chemical etching. Took 2 weeks, but happy that it turned out well.
After it fully cures in 30 days, I will have the chrome delete done (got a quote for $430) and then take it to my detailer to have graphene nano-coating applied. (3 year product is less expensive for lease than their Ceramic Pro Ion coating)
