1Q2025 sales

According to results from perplexity.ai, the ZDX (#14) slightly out-sold the Lyric (#15) in first quarter, and about half the sales of the Prologue (#5). The Prologue was the #5 EV seller in the US.

Top 5:
Tesla Model Y - 64,051
Tesla Model 3 - 52,520
Ford Mach-E - 11,607
Chevy Equinox - 10,329
Honda Prologue - 9,561

Numbers 14 and 15:
ZDX - 4,813
Lyric - 4,300

Don't tell the doomsayers from yesteryear. I think by now we can safely say ZDX is a relative success, all things considered. Yes, Acura have to put heavy incentives to move ZDX, but the momentum sustains.

By any measurements, ZDX is a healthier business case than TLX. It serves its purpose, which is to keep Acura owners from jumping ship.

On the other hand, I want to point out that Lyriq is under pressure from Optiq, and a lesser degree from Escalade and Vistiq. So ZDX outselling Lyriq could become a norm until MY26 Lyriq arrives.

Spoken like Acura's marketing department, who are experts at making lemonade. The ZDX is a proven, dismal, embarrassing failure by any measure. "Heavy incentives" is an understatement, and even then ZDX's languish on dealer lots. And I think the most damning statement came from my Acura service advisor, when I told him I'd seen ads for $199/month deals on the ZDX. "You couldn't pay me enough to take one of those pieces of crap. Every single one of them comes back constantly for all kinds of problems. It's a huge black eye for Acura that we even sell that thing."

Sure, your NSX is faster with much lower center of gravity. But the EV ZDX is doing pretty darn good. Is it the first and last model on this platform? Probably. But besides a couple of issues, the ZDX is a very capable and pretty big 5 passenger SUV. I think it's bigger than our Pilot.

You seem to lease your cars so a ZDX might not be doing that great for you. But it's heck of a deal compared to the MDX.

See, told you don't tell the doomsayers!

"If I don't like the car, it is not good for anyone."

"No one says anything good about Acura/ZDX, because I don't believe it."

I'm honestly glad it works for the people who got one and like it. But stepping back and trying to look with an objective eye, I don't see any way to regard the current-generation ZDX as anything but a failure overall.

And it's a side point, but I'm wondering what makes you think I lease my cars. The only one I ever leased was my M Roadster, and I was incredibly glad I did since it was basically a lemon.

The cars you mention in your signature are mostly 2-4 model years apart. 2009, 2011, 2014, 2020, 2024. Hence, I was GUESSING that you might be leasing the cars. Apparently, that's not the case. I don't like to lease cars and the ZDX is the first one we ever leased as this was the only way to get the rebate and credits.

Iceman, I agree with you to some extent. For example, it sure seems like the ZDX is the unwanted step-child of the Ultium family. Witness GM getting SuperCharger access way back in September, and we get it next month. Witness the GM Ultium products can autocharge+ at EVgo and EV Connect, but we can only do so at EVgo. And we have the new Ionna network, of which Honda is a founding member, and yet we can't yet Plug&Charger there yet. As Ionna told me this morning:

For your inquiry regarding your Acura ZDX currently the following brands available for Auto charge are: BMW, MB, HYUNDAI, KIA, and GM. Unfortunately, we do not have a timeline for when more will be added at this moment.
As a car, the ZDX is great. But it lags in the tech area. Fortunately, that doesn't impact my enjoyment too much. The fact it isn't selling any better does bother me. I will be worried about resale value in 4-5 years. (I bought out our lease early to save on the high interest we were paying, possibly a mistake. But originally we only leased it to get the tax credit). But as a car, I love it.
