Zaino not as shiny as expected

I applied my first coat of z-2 today and my brothers and friends were expecting more bling from the paint cause i was telling them about this "special polish" i got from the internet. Is it because i only got one coat on??

I dawned the car, dried it, applied z-2 w/zfx, waited 30 min then wiped z-2 off then applied the z-6.

Am i doing anything wrong?? Sorry i dont have a digi cam to show you what the car looks like, but it does look very clean just doent have the deep shine that i want it to have. I dunno maybe i'm just too picky cause i was gettin alot of looks on the road.

I'd suggest putting another few coats on. Zaino perks up after the first few coats. Also, you didn't say that you used clay which can make a huge difference in the shine.

i didnt buy the clay or the z-5. I don think i need the clay cause the dawn really got the paint squeeky clean. Does the clay make that big of a difference in the shine. If i buy the clay right now do i have to re dawn and start all over again??

If the paint feels perfectly smooth with no roughness at all than clay might not be necessary. If it is, you can just clay over the Zaino, no need to use Dawn again. Just make sure to follow the clay by washing the car and appliing a coat of Zaino polish. I find that I clay my car 2 to 3 times a year when I start to notice stuff on the paint. It's my wife's car and at work she parks in a a nice residential neighborhood with lots of gardners and other nasties so it tend to pick up stuff.

The paint feels really clean so there no need for the clay bar, but i guess the shine will come with more coats.

Darrinb - I ran out of zaino, and I am using blackfire. I think that will give you that deep rich look. I am curious to see a zainoed black car besides what mine used to look like. When you finish, try posting pics.

I still aint got a digi cam, i'm in the market for one though. BTW, coats 2,3,and 4 are goin on friday after school.

And nicky, i dont think i need z-1 if i use zfx. But does z-1 make the paint bling more??

I want to try that new shit scooter made a thread about (s100) but then i cant put zaino on top of that.

Using ZFX, I've put 3 coats on my bike in an hour or two. 80 degrees and no humidity helps a lot.

statement number 1 - no , z1 does not increase the shine. its just old school, single layer process.

#2 - i saw a zaino customer doing the S100 layer over his zaino at a little gathering i held for a car club. he liked his results - over a metallic green - but wished it had more durability . .

personally - i could barely tell where he had applied it, and where he hadnt. but he liked the results and that is what matters . . .

Is there a big difference between Z5 and Z2 as far as shine goes?

As far as I know, I thought you should always end with a coat of Z2 w/ Z6 to give it that shine. From what I read, Z5 works, but doesn't give quite the best optics as compared to the finish after a coat of Z2.

I put 6 coats of Z2 w/ ZFX last weekend (3 on Sat. and 3 on Sun) and my paint is silky smooth. On an anthracite color, it doesn't shine or give me the mirror effect that a darker solid color has (like black), but in the sunlight, the metallic flakes really sparkle! Zaino is really amazing...the hard part about it is that when I apply it, I can't tell that I'm putting it on because I use such thin coats, but after it dries a little, I can see where it hazes a bit. I really like the stuff and plan on putting 3 layers on the car every other car wash.

Hopefully with more coats, the shine will become more and more.

For you hardcore Zaino fans, do you guys notice a difference between 10 coats and 20 coats?

I think it depends on how often you apply it. I get lazy and "lay off" the applications after putting on about 3-6 coats in a few day/week period.

IMO (and for me), my “shine” always looks best the day after a set of ZFX coats have been applied (3-6 coats) -- with a final buff and a final application of Z6.

The extra coats do seem to keep the finish like Teflon for bugs, sap, and bird turds that get removed the same day. (IOW, if I get to some “horror” the same day, it slides right off with a little water)

If you look around, you can definitely see a difference with some of the 100+ coat jobs (vs. 10/20 coats)...

So, it probably depends on how fast you get those coats on (in what period of time).

YMMV

The official rule is 6 hours between coats if it's over 70 degrees.
