Yellow Road paint v/s UPP V/S Collinite 845
Day before yesterday I was forced to drive over a road that just had the yellow lines painted with a latex paint and it immediatly rained. This turned the road to a wet yellow film which was sprayed everywhere ... idiots too stupid to slow down.
I stopped and asked the road crew what type of paint and they confirmed it was latex based thus the leaching when it rained. They said because it was latex it will wash off. I called them bullshit right there. Dried latex floating on water isn't an issue but wet latex dilluted by rain water is still wet latex and will dry and adhere to the car.
I immediatly washed the car when I got home. Painting was done about 10 miles from home and it rained all the way home so nothing dried.
The car body had 4 layers of 4 Star UPP on it .. the wheels had 3 layers of Coliinite 845. Both of the last layers were done a week ago.
The thin yellow film on the body washed off without a problem. The wheels were a different story. The film on the lip came off easy but as I went closer to the center of the wheels it became more difficult.
I eventually had to use #105 on the spokes and bolt holes to get it off.
Temeratures that day were in the 40s and the wheels cool when I got home and were still wet like the body.
Either the UPP is a lot less porous than the 845 or the 845 can't deal with the wheel heat.
The windshield is another story .. glass is pretty porous and I'm still working on that.

I cant believe they use a water based paint up there. Most areas prone to cold conditions either use a solvent based (due to weather conditions requiring rapid drying) or a thermo-plastic. Glad you were able to remove at least the body paint!

Ya fortunatly it wasn't paint splatter or overspray .. but a dilluted slurry.
