White Splotch Under Clear Coat??

Help - My 2001 Asure Blue CL has developed a couple of small whitish splotches on the back end of the trunk. It is smooth to the touch and won't scratch off with fingernail - so not on top of paint. Looks like stain under the clear coat. They are about 1-2 inches and sort of bloches that almost look like faded but I can see clear coat shine over them. I am now worried more might appear. I used to use Zaino products but have not used for about a year and had dealer detail about 6 mos. ago. Also went of road trip and noticed after a neighborhood car wash where they used a power wand. But I suspect these were there before all of this.

I tried Zaino 5, 2 and 6 last night but made no difference at all.

Thanks for any help,
Rustito

Take a couple of pics. I am sure that some of the pros here will be able to offer you good advise once they see what you are referring to. Also, do you have a PC or do you plan to correct by hand?

Here is close-up pic of white splotch - it is smooth to the touch but close-up looks like specks of salt sort of:

On the pic I just posted the smooth white areas are reflections of clouds!! It is the white specks that is the stain.

Have you tried a paint cleaner like Klasse AIO or similar? Not familiar with the Zaino stuff to know if you already tried.

Hi - Just looked up Klasse AIO - never hear of before but says polish and sealant in one. My question is whether this will work out something that seems stained into the paint yet surface is still totally smooth? Klasse AIO sounds like protectant but not cleaner? However, I am ready to try anything.

Strange no people on forum have ever seen this - I posted to a few of the other forums but no luck so far. This can't be the first car with this type of problem. My guess is it has something to do with age of car and unprotected - not in garage. But still smooth to touch so it is some type of under clear coat contamination.

Thanks for the suggestion,
Rustito

Klasse AIO is really the first of two steps, with the SG being the second. While AIO has some protection factors, it is mainly a paint cleaner, in that it removes oxidation, etc... The SG is the real protection in the combo. This is why I suggested giving the AIO a shot.

Call your Acura dealer and see if they have a bottle in the part dept. on the racks of accessories, wash supplies, etc. you can buy while waiting for your service. I know my dealership has AIO on the shelf. There are other chemical paint cleaners, but I have used this one and know that it has been around for a long time and is well known.

It may require a few applications and some vigorous elbow grease to remove, so if yo know a friend with a PC, buy him a 6 pack and ask for the tool.

Hey... I took a course in San Diego for Auto Reconditioning and they showed us this kind of effect on paint. Since it looks all speckled I would think the paint got sprayed with some chemical (degreaser/cleaner). Leaving it on a paint surface will penetrate your clear coat and actually keep going deeper because of the acidic properties they contain. Other things like sap, rain water or hard water, bird crap, etc also cause the same effect. That's why it's not good to wash a car with dish soap because it's not ph balanced. I'd try some polish consumer products are labeled as cleaners/polishes or swirl removers... what stogie mentioned will probably help since it's purpose is oxidation removal but with most consumer products they are toned down so their is no risk of messing up the paint, so definitely look for a random orbital buffer like the Porter Cable mentioned. Good Luck

Thanks for the advise. Zaino says looks like paint is breaking down under clear coat - happens with age etc. But it is only a small spot so I will try to work it out and keep paint protected better that I have this past year or so. Pic really distorts it since it is so close-up. But since it is totally smooth to the touch it is from inside out. I do know issues with stuff like raw egg - had to deal with that once when car was new!! Awful mess but I was able to get it entirely out - but took many hours of hard work.
