Weird wax problem

Hey,

So I'm trying to wax my car right now. I had noticed this last time I waxed it, but some panels arent letting the wax stick. I donno whats going on, but right now part of the passenger side door wont take the wax. I tried clay baring it to remove anything. I had washed with dawn to remove any old wax (time before I used regular car soap). The front fender took the wax and is very smooth, as did the front 1/4 of the door, but after that nothing. I can feel the difference as I slide my hand over the surface. Goes from super slick to 'grabby'. Its clean, with no visible dirt or anything. When I apply the wax applicator, it makes a sliding sound (?) instead of being silent like the parts of the car that accept the wax. Make sense? I donno.

I did have the front end repainted due to rock chips so I'm wondering if some kind of releasing agent was applied to the rest of the car?

Thoughts?

In this case I washed, clayed and polished. I do have cleaner wax, maybe I'll try that.
