weird residue

It rained on Monday-ish and I was out driving in it for a bit. I didn't have a chance to wash the car until today, so I hopped to it to get the dust and water spots off.

When I opened the trunk to dry off the inside of the trunk lid, etc, I found a weird residue on the paint in the area marked in red below. It was a hard residue, but I felt like I might be able to scratch it off with my fingernail. Just above the mark, on the actual trunk lid, there is a drain hole. I don't know what is inside the metal of the trunk, but it was awful.

Knowing better than to use my fingernail, I got out an old piece of clay and went to town... Lube and a MF towel only, no results. Wet with lube and clay, only marginal progress. Dry with very little lube and clay, marginal results...

Getting scared at this point...

Then it hits me. The paint is dirty. I should use a paint cleaner!

I grabbed my Klasse AIO and a yellow foam applicator and in ten seconds the mess was gone!

Finished the area with a touch of Klasse SG for protection.

I feel like the cake would draw me in, and while I was looking for the cake some one would push me in and close the trunk.

No, almost went and grabbed the tar/bug remover to try out, but went for the AIO first.
