Waxing the car for winter!

So i live in NH and its starting to get cold. I was wondering when the best time to wax my car would be. I'm thinking in October. Whats a good wax for the harsh conditions of winter?

I'm going with Meguiars ultimate wax this winter.
Last winter I used NXT 2.0
Will also throw a sacrifical layer of carnauba on top.

Best time is right before the fist snowfall, or when temps dip down that you can't wax it outside. (if you wax outside)

Where in NH do you live? I was just staying in Nashua, and traveling to New Ipswich for business.

Both.
I am planning to hit it with spray here and there during winter to prolong the protection

If you want to go for the gold, clay bar/machine polish/wax.

That's what it will take, to get the paint smooth as glass. Clay bar'd aka properly cared for paint makes washing and drying the car much, much easier.

x2 on the Collinite 845. The fact you want to wax the car to protect it this winter is great, don't get me wrong. But you don't want to wax over contaminated paint, it's not going to bond as well thus breaking down in a few months time (mid winter most likely) and it's only going to harm the paint. Spend the $20 on a clay bar kit and prep the paint so you get the most out of the wax.

1. Wash and clay car if you haven't already done the latter.
2. Apply one coat of Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant and wait a few days, then re-wash the car and apply a second coat.
3. Give it another day or two, re-wash one final time and apply a coat of the Collinite 845.

I've been using the BFWD x2 plus 845 for two years now and it is a dynamite combination.

I do multiply layers of Meguiars #21 prior to winter .. each at least a day apart.

If you don't have a buffer then 1) Clay 2) Cleaner wax .. eg. Meguiars ColorX 3) IPA/Water wipe 4) Selant layers.

BTW I did the Collinte #845 over #21 X 2 on 1/2 the roof of my neighbors Subaru 2 winters ago and the Collinite side didn't last nearly as long as the #21 x 2 side alone. Car sits out 24/7. Personally I think the solvents/carriers in the Collinite removes some of the sealant below. Last winter I tried exactly the same over Duragloss #105 x 2 .. same results.Maybe it holds up better in a rain climate v/s snow and colder. Dunno .

I applied Colli 845 over Menzerna PL about a month ago and it's doing well so far. We don't have harsh winters here by any means but I'll keep an eye on it to see if it breaks down any more quickly.
