Waxing – advice needed please

This weekend I decided to wax my 3 week old 04 TL. The Zaino process looked a little too advanced (and time consuming) so I opted for the Meguiars Canuba paste.

First a thorough wash with the mitt; Then a thorough rinse and dry. She looked pretty clean and shiny (and felt smooth) so I decided to add the wax. I pulled her into the garage at about 6:30 pm (dusk). I am in South Florida so it was still around 80+ degrees. But the car seemed relatively cool.

The directions on the Meguiars Canuba indicate that you should apply a layer of wax to the entire car before the wipe-off begins. So that’s what I did.

By the time I finished applying the wax, I could tell that some spots were very dry and beginning to turn a white-beige color. So I started the cycle once again, this time removing the dried wax. Wow, it was very hard to remove. My wife and I worked together and both struggled to remove the dried wax. It took a considerable amount of force and effort to get this stuff off. By the time we were done, it was dark and the car looked pretty good under the modest light in my garage.

This morning, as I took her out into the sunlight, I saw several spots where I hade done a poor job of buffing the wax off. So I got out a terry towel again and started to remove the spots I saw.

I must be doing something wrong. I can’t believe how much effort it took to get the wax off, and I did not even get all the wax off. I really had to buff the car hard to get it off, and although I was not expecting an easy process, I feel like I was working harder than I was supposed to. Did I wait to long to remove the wax? Perhaps a liquid wax or polish would have been easier.

Any Ideas?

Yano, im going to have to say you applied it relatively thick. All Carnaubas are difficult to remove if applied too thick. Your actually better off applying two coats very lightly. You also should have applied a polish prior to waxing, this insures a completely clean surface for bonding. I know you mentioned its new, but who knows what the dealer did to it before you received it. Chances are there fallout on your paint.
Wash with sheepskin washmitt, clay, polish, seal....
Also, have you considered using microfiber towels ?

You might also consider doing a section at a time (i.e.- hood, trunk, front bumper, rear bumper, etc.) and then cleaning it off before moving on.
