Wax every time you wash car?

Should you wax/polish every time you wash your car? Every month, sometimes every 2 weeks if its dirty, I wash my car and wax/polish it every time. I always wonder if there too much wax.

it depends on the wax and how long it last.
re-wax when your car isnt beading up.

Depending on the car color .. wax used and the temperatures its exposed to .

Normally with a dark car .. higher temps and OTC waxes they are good for a few washes and maybe 4-6 weeks .

I wouldn't wax every time you wash.

Polishing is a different thing again and should only be done when needed.

Considering wax is just a layer on top of the paint, I don't see why not to add an extra coat on whenever you have the time. That's what I do sometimes, although it must be said that the wax usually lasts a fairly long time.

But you also have to keep in mind most waxes aren't layerable ... the cleaners in the just remove most of what was there before ... sealants on the other hand can be layers depending on the sealant.

I would say if you wash x 2 weekly, I wouldnt recommend waxing with every wash. Generally speaking, monthly spray waxes atop a base layer is a sweet regimen.

I like the Wax-As-You-Dry products. I've used several brands.

They keep the paint beading nicely!

They don't take much extra time.

I use them every 3rd or 4th wash. I've used them exclusively on my daily drivers for three years.

PS If you have a vehicle with unpainted plastic, WAYD products won't cause the black parts to turn white.

If you use real wax, you should only have to do it ever 3rd to 4th wash. You can use wax as you dry inbetween to help protect the real wax.

You do not have to wax everytime you wash unless you are using really abrasive detergents.

I used acrylic sealants in the past (Klasse) and it stays on very well, reapply as needed but limit it to maybe 4 times a year.

I just bought some Poor Boys Black Hole Finish and Klasse High Gloss Sealant so I'll see how it fairs against Chicago weather and salt this winter.
