I've heard that the NXT brand doesn't have as much durability as other premium or higher end waxes.

However, I do think it's a pretty decent wax for the price IMO.

Beading has nothing to do with the looks or protection ... more about surface tension .. Carnubas will bead till they are gone .. sealants will bead for a while then sheet.

If you can't afford the others .. look at Duragloss #105 or Meguiars #21 ... both are inexpensive and work great.

NXT is an OTC sealant with cleaners and doesn't do either job well.

I like Colinite 845. It is pretty inexpensive and should last you a very, very long time.

I usually coat my car with Tech Wax 2.0 every month and I get good gloss and decent beading out of it, but it's not as noticeable as other waxes at higher price points. My local Big Lots sells it for $8 and, for that price, I can't find anything that beats it.

However, I just received Chemical Guy's "Pete's '53 Black Pearl" wax and I am seriously impressed with the results on my parent's new Infiniti that I waxed last weekend. I will probably use this wax every 3 months on my TL as it's relatively expensive.

Obviously, no wax is perfect, and from the shine I saw after using it once, I was ultimately impressed. Our Infiniti is a quasi-grey color so I may see different results on my Royal Blue TL, but I can't yet speak for the product in the long run.

As far as the Tech Wax, if used properly, it goes on smooth but I would not rely on it as a more permanent waxing compound.

Some of these $30 -$50 waxes/sealants aren't going to look as good on a car that isn't prepped & polished out .. nor will they last as long on a non prepped car .. pretty much over kill and a waste of $$.

In the right scenareo they are great but otherwise its like saying a Rolex keeps better time .

I have had cars done with Zaino and other high end boutique products park beside me at show and the owners come over and ask the secret to what I use to get the results I have cuz it looks so much better than thiers. Then not believe me that all it is is Megs #21 "but" polished and prepped to perfection before the LSP. Not just a few coats of a boutique LSP applied over non prepped paint.

How do you know this? I have it and it didn't stand up as well as the Megs #21 and a few others ... beading has nothing to do with looks or protection .. and it didn't bead any better than most.

Anyway .. go for it .. keep us informed ..

I read somewhere that a sealant will last much longer than a carnauba wax....therefore, longer protection, and will bead for a longer period of time. Is this true?

thats usually the case but you can add a layer of wax on top of the sealant.
thats what a lot of folks including me do.

sealant + about 2 coats of wax.

So if I were to use this method, what I would I apply after a few months? Sealant, wax, or something to strip it all off and start over?

After a few months there is usually nothing left to strip off ... if your going to reallpy a sealant then wipe the car down with 50/50 IPA & water ... if your going to just wax ... go ahead and wax.

so, guys I had my car hood waxed a week ago with nxt. We had some heavy rain from past few days in NW. I was heading towards my car in heavy rain yesterday and the wasn't beading or sheeting water at all. It looked as if it was never waxed. Later, that day i saw the hood had some loose beading. I did parked the car close to the tree. It was about 10-15 feet away.

I am a loyal megs fan but honestly in the LSP market they are a little lacking. NXT alone beaded for a week and the protection was about a month.

Heres some of my beadings...
Blackfire Wet Diamond on the TSX.

NXT isn't a great LSP as most otc products aren't .. Mostly because they are expected to do too many jobs .. like clean & protect. Megs #21 is a way better.

Beading shots like that are great because natural gentle rain comes straight down in smaller dropplets .. same effect can be achieved with a cheap wax and the right hose setting.

I agree nxt isnt the greatest LSP. To clean I stick to Duragloss 501 or Blackfire TPnS depending on the condition. LSP I have tried many and so far BF Crystal Seal and BFWD have been the best when it comes to look, durability, and most importantly ease of use.

purple haze beads WAAAY better than that.
after about a week, i had some rain and the water just rolled off all day.
after it stopped raining, i took a 10min drive down the road and all the water was gone from the car.

i swear by purple haze for dark colored cars.
so far its lasted about a month and a half. rained yesterday and still beading very nicelyl
