UDM - PC 7424 - Differences?

Can anyone explain the differences (if any) between the Ultimate Detail Machine/UDM and the Porter Cable/PC 7424?

Is one "better" than the other?

Thanks!
Steve

not anymore, they are one and the same machine...the original udm was a machine designed after the pc, and it was supposed to be a more powerful version of the pc, now that the udm had issues, they turned their manufacturing over to pc...so the new udm is a pc with a udm sticker on it....either way, get the pc...

If I was going to buy now I'd go with the G110 for the power over the PC.

If I were to buy two machines that would cover heavy paint correction and light paint correction, I would go with a rotary (Makita or Metabo) and a G110. I don't like how you're stuck with the default backing plate on the Flex.

I was looking at the Flex but the above mentioned backing plate size means my 30 or so pads would be useless.

The UDM has a little more power. I've had mine for over a year with no issues.

It is my understanding that the only new UDMs you can buy are the same as the pc7424, which means they have the wimpy 3.7 amp motor. The original UDM machine, which had 4.2 amps, is no longer made. The alternative is the Meguiars G110. I've been debating the G110 vs. the UDM and have decided to go with the G110; I also like the handle better on the g110. Both machines are roughly the same price when you consider the packages that retailers offer.

You can find the UDM for as little as $109 bare bones, but then you have to buy a backing plate and pads. Autopia, Autogeek and Excel Detail have good packages for the UDM w/pads. Autogeek has the G110 for $149 plus pads, but I'm waiting for a better deal like 10% off and free shipping.

i have used both, udm and the pc, you cant even really tell the difference between the 3.7 vrs 4.2 motor...so wimpy might be a little extreme....

Boy I'll tell you .. I own both the PC 7424 and the UDM V1 and there is a huge difference between them power and ossillation wise. . Its very hard to stop the V1 UDM where the PC is easily stopped with a little pressure unless your up on speed 5.5 etc.

The New UDM is a rebranded PC supplied with a backing plate & pad and a so called "better " warranty which when I read it isn't realistically better.

thats funny, i guess i didnt notice the stopping part, but the only real difference i noticed was when i had them both wide open...the udm felt stronger, but not that much....

i like my udm, i am just dissapointed in udm for giving up on their machine and handing it over to pc....you know??

Ya I agree ... the thing too is they are supporting it until the warranty runs out .. and after that .. I guess your scooped. I don't even know if there is going to be parts available for self repair.

The 2 issues I have seen with mine are brushes and the speed switch. Both are a 5 minute repair and not brain surgery and simple tools to repair.

The other thing too is when I had issues the just replaced it with another one of the same. So if I still have issues do I get another V1 UDM which still has the same issues or a V2 .. which I don't want cuz I already have a PC?
