Turtle Wax Black Box... Any tips?

So I purchased the turtle wax black box for my 04 black TL. I heard it does amazing things for a black paint job. I havent used it yet, but are there any suggestions or tips that they dont tell u about? I heard somewhere it takes about 3 hours. I've never used any wax or detailing kit though so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure about that product itself, but I recommend always clay baring your car prior to waxing. If you don't IMO that's like washing your hands with no soap. If your not familiar, clay bars remove any build up or crap stuck on the paint that no washing could remove. If you clay bar then wax your paint will be incredibly smooth.

Wear gloves that is my one and only tip for this. Works really well if you clay bar first. I use it on my wife's nbp tsx

Thumbs up

I used the Black Box this spring but I used a clay bar before and my car never looked sexier. I didn't skimp at all on using the materials included and still have more than half of the products left, so that was an added bonus.

The black compounds will STAIN like there's no tomorrow, so be aware of that and use pants and a shirt that you won't be heartbroken if it gets stained. I wore a marathon dri-fit shirt when I did it and to this day, after lots of washes, that stain is set and going nowhere. And of course, wear gloves, and do it in the shade. Better to give yourself more time and do it right instead of trying to rush it, so do it on an afternoon when you won't be pressed for time.

Thanks for the tips guys. I bought Meguiars Ultimate Wash and Wax (the yellow stuff with the GTR on the cover). Would that be a good "non-spotting" base soap to use before waxing. Also at which point do I use the clay bar, before washing or after... before waxing??

1) Wash the car with water and Dawn Dish soap.
2) Dry the car
3) Clay Bar
4) Wipe the car down with a misting of 50/50 rubbing alcohol & water.
5) Use the wax.

Save the wash soap you bought for future washes.

Follow the directions for the product.
I do not know the product but generally, it will go something like this.

Wash and dry
Clay
Apply the pre wax cleaner with the applicator it came with and should be massaged in to your paint. In general should be wiped off while still wet. Should not let this dry.
Apply the wax and in general allow it to haze or dry. Do a smear test to see if the wax has hazed. Swipe with your finger and if the wax wipes off completely, it has hazed and ready to be wiped off. If it smears, give it more time. Depending on the weather conditions and the wax, it can be anywhere from a couple of minutes to an hour. Wipe off the wax in the same order your applied. Let the wax to cure for about 12hrs before introducing any liquid to the finish. If there are any wax residue you have missed, use the spray detailer to wipe off.

Again, the above is a general process and it applies to most detailing products. There may be some discrepancies to what Turtle Wax recommends and in which case, follow what Turtle Wax recommends.

I would clay bar the car, then go over it with a IPA, and then apply wax.
