Tire Shine/dressing...

quick question.. whats the best tire shine/dressing out there? Took my TL to wash and they put this dressing on it, but it slung black stuff all over the sides. Other stuff lasts for only a drive or two, and thats it.

I can't stand ashy tires! Its like taking a shower and not putting on lotion.. haha

If you want it to look good, no sling, and have durability, then look into Tuf Shine...

Actually found this product being sold at the NYAS one year and every time I go I buy more. Love the way it goes on and looks. Also lasts awhile between washes.
Just a suggestion. No matter what product I use,I always spray it on and let it soak in and then wipe the excess off with a clean towel. Personally I don't like really shiny/wet looking tires because I think they look like their made of plastic.

Jproxx, I've tried SO many of these things. I've had Tuff Shine....blahhhh-lots of different products.

Honestly, the stuff I like the best is the Griot's Garage Long Lasting Tire Shine. It lasts the longest, no spray up and looks good.

Call me crazy...but I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. It works great, isn't too shiny, doesn't get slung off, and lasts.

I've been using Meg's Hot Shine (Gel for a while, but switched to the spray) and I like it. The gel will sling if you apply too much; spray is easier to use as well.

Better than the Black Magic Tire Wet, IMO. Black Magic leaves a residue (silicone?) on the tire that you can actually scrape off.

You want to get a water based tire shine.
Silicone tire shine will turn you r tires brown after a while and dry them out.
Always look on the back of the bottle

I use Megs Tire Gel. I apply it, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then wipe the tires with a clean cloth, that way it doesnt sling but keeps a nice shine.

+ 2 on the 303. But then again I hate my tires looking shiny so I don't have any input if you are going for that look.

to me the most important is keeping the tires clean while looks shiny too.
i always wash the tires with a big brush along with all purpose cleaner then finish with tire foam/gel/spray......etc and it indeed gives me better result and shine last longer......
if you have never wash the tires, you are basically just covering the dirt over and over again with tire foam/gel/spray....

+3. Dilute 1:1 with water and it's great. Doesn't fling, lasts a good week+ if the weather is dry and gives the tires a nice new look.

I've never tried diluting the Optimum with 1:1 water but I'll have to give that a try now that you mentioned it. It doesn't last very long as is.

By the way, I am about 90% positive that I have seen you out driving on 21 before. Very clean KBP type-s near the Massillon-Canton area.

I believe it really depends on the tire. Some tires like conti DWS don't take to most tire shines; only one that has worked for me on them is Meguiars Tire Foam. On my Vredesteins I use Black Magic Tire Gel and that works well. I spray it on, leave it there for a few minutes, wipe the tire with a foam pad and clean off the excess on my wheels/paint with a rag.

I think Opti-Bond is the longest lasting, at least through my experience.

This. Hands down. The last time I applied the Griots dressing my wheels were off the car. So I cleaned the wheels and tires thoroughly. Then I applied the tire dressing about a quarter the way into the tire depth. Even after tons of miles of actually being used I can still see a nice matte black on the part of the tire that touches the road!

Dark matte finish. Rubs in and practically dries and it doesn't even seem like anything is there. Doesn't require a lot of product. Def doesn't fling anywhere.

Their rubber rejuvenator is a good first step if your tires have a bad color. Then use the dressing.

I didn't mean the shine from the product, I met the product itself. It goes quick! The stuff is really thick and doesn't last long as a whole, the shine on the tires lasts a long time!

Haven't had a chance nor a need to try it but thought it looked interesting.

^^^Totally agree with this. I would say this is the most important step no matter what tire shine you decide on. If you take the time to clean the tires well before hand, the tire shine will last a lot longer.
