Tire dressing on engine plastics?

I've had some pretty good success with Megs APC for cutting through most of the dirt and grime. What I need now, however, is a good dressing I can put on the plastics. Something that I can spray and walk, preferably. And I'd also prefer something OTC.

I was thinking tire dressing may work? I have some Black Magic Matte Tire dressing, unless someone has a reason why I shouldn't use that, I may give it a try. Would this also make the spark wires look a bit better?

The guys at my dealership use tire dressing for engine bay stuff but I've never trusted it myself due to how hot some of that stuff gets. There's products out there that you can spray, wipe a lil and walk away. I got one as a free sample when I orderd some FK 425 but I cant think of it at them moment. I'll look when I get home if nobody else provides an answer.

BTW that Kenny Tate video is funny as hell!!!!! LOL! Been my favorite for a while.

Stoner's Trim Shine is the shit... It's something like $4 a can and it's a spray and walk away. You can pick it up at Napa.

Don't many tire dressings contain cleaners and silicons that degrade rubber (aka coolant hoses/tires)

I use 303 on the hoses, CG New Look Gel on the hard plastic pieces. Now when I have open the hood I have to wear shades.

It's been a couple of weeks and it's still dust free.

I'll try some of that Trim Shine.

I've just been reading up on Autopia (especially a product rant thread) and am going to be a bit more picky on what I add to my arsenal from now on. I want to have things that have multiple uses and not unitaskers. And I don't want to have to rely on the internet for every last little thing.

APC and ONR disagree.

And don't get me wrong. Particular products are useful and needed. I'm not knocking any particular product, or anyone who recommends them. But I do think people are caught up in names or prices, thinking they need the most expensive thing (wax) or big name (other) to get the job done. I love Meg's APC, but if I can get something that works just as well for 1/3 of the price, then that should be the thing I buy. If trim shine works great for air inlets and boxes, then that's something I'm going to add to the arsenal.

Now see thats different than multitasking ... its a cleaner ... I use it too .. BUT .. go to the Dollar Tree store and get a bottle of Awesome and try it .. even cleans tires extreemly well. Cost wise I use it over the Megs ..

And on the ONR ... I have it too .. and for its intended use its great .. but as a clay lube I didn't like it and in the QD ratio mix it seemed off to me so I just use that up to clean door edges and wheels.

I guess I have a different definition - or use of the definition. I see so many people suggesting different cleaners for wheels, tires, wheel well, interior...if there's products that can cover a multitude of uses, I refer to it as a multitasker. Instead of say, a wheel cleaner that really doesn't do anything on anything else.

I just am going to get away from having a specialty product for every single part of the car. I don't have room for it in my box, and more importantly, I don't have the cash for it. I'm all for taking recommendations and going with them, but sometimes cost is a consideration.

It's like Black Wow. It may be good, but is it $6.25/oz good? Or can something like Black Again, Fade 2 Black, Back to Black or Trim Shine achieve the same, or similar results? I think a conversation like this would be interesting to read.

Ya the black Wow is pricy but like other dressings it works great on some stuff but not others .. on textured plastic like under the wipers on the TL I apply it 2 times a year and it lasts a lot of washes .. where things like 303 are gone in a couple washes to its cost effective there but not a good seat / dash product.

I was using Whesleys Bleech Wite on tires now I have swung over to Awesome which is a very effective APC and no dillution hassles.

As for dressing tires & wheel wells of customer cars I been using the Tire Shine form the Dollar Tree and I apply it with a paint sprayer undilluted .. works great and like the rest of the dressings it lasts a couple washes but it doesn't sling. $1 for a litre .. leater will do about 4 trucks / 6 cars .. pretty cost effective.

Ever since I joined AZ, my #1 goal was to use all the "smiles" expression...due to this, sometimes the expressions does not fully express what I conveying, which has cause some unpleasant responses.
