Swirls - What is this???

Hey guys,

I noticed the other day while my car was sitting in the mall parking lot under direct sunlight that there were a lot of lines in the side of the door. It didn't really look like swirls, but it almost looked like little scratches. I only noticed this when the sun was directly shinning on that spot of the car. I can't seem to see them under any type of other lighting. Even if the car sits in the sun I don't notice them, unless the sun is really bright and shinning directly on the car. I have an 07 TSX Carbon Gray Pearl. What would be the best way to remove these IF they're infact swirls? I do have a DA polisher.

Thanks much.

Jeff

A light abrasive along with a light polishing pad. Your fortunate to only be able to see them under ideal conditions..........It could be worse........i.e.

My latest efforts of labor...........a 99 528i, and 6 hours of polishing/cleaning/sealing.....

If it didn't look like swirls, then maybe light marring?

RE: Scratches / Marring

Is this usually the result from bad towel / techniques to car care?

More then likely, improper washing techniques.
1. Its very important to attempt removal of debris and dust prior to even making contact with the surface. By this I mean, give it a good hosing off or powerwash!
2. Second step, quality wash implements, i.e GENUINE SHEEPSKIN washmits
or if you prefer, microfiber wash mitts. (I opt for sheepskin though)
3. Lots of lubrication when washing, which usually requires, again, quality products. Dont fall for the all in one wash and wax soaps unless there full of lubrication, just dont rely on "wax" with these products.
4. Drying, use a soft recognized waffle weave drying towels, and add some protection and lubrication while drying i.e. AquaWax, Freedom One, etc......

I second that, prob. improper washing tehniques caused by dirty water, dirty wash mitts and dirty microfiber or waffle weave towels when drying.
Remeber to always use 2 buckets of water (dip in the clean water after each panel) and or 2 mitts depending on the condition of the car.
