Swirl Marks

i have an '06 black tsx and i have swirl marks. i had my car professionally detailed once ot get rid of them. i dont take my car to the car wash and do it by hand. im careful of the towels and products i use mf towels and sheepskin wash mits, what can i do to prevent them further? and how can i get rid of them by hand? the detailer mentioned a foam pad, where do i get one or how do i use it? what products should i use to get rid of them? any help is greatly appreciated.

Having the right equipment and tools is a plus. It comes down to technique, refer to this thread for more info.

You can get rid of them by hand however it is a tiresome and time consuming task. The fastest and easiest way is by machine. Use the search function to find more info about swirl removal and polishing. Lots of threads on this subject matter.

There are a number of products from different manufacturers. You'll need a polish that has diminished abrasives to remove/correct surface defects and can be referred to as swirl mark removers (SMR). The ones mentioned often are the Optimum line, Four Star, Poor Boys and Megs. The first three are available from online detail sites and possibly offer the best selections. The latter can be purchased locally. Foam pads are available at your local auto parts store (Pep Boys, Kragens, AutoZone).
