Steps?

If I'm going to clay my car...is there any reason to polish it prior to waxing?

Thanks.

Just to get rid of swirls and such... otherwise, no problem waxing after claying.

if you dont have the time or means, you can defintely skip the polishing step.
as aman stated the polishing step is actually correcting the paint.

Clay has the potential to leaving some marring in which case you would want to polish.

However, as long as you use fine grade clay, you should be ok.

Between claying and waxing wipe the car down with a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol & water to give the wax/sealant a good surface to be applied to.

What he said.

Use a fine poly clay and you should not need to polish, just use a lot of clay lube or, I stick to ONR and distilled water.

have you tried adding some Megs D114 to your IPA solution, excellent result and little to no marring

Interesting, thanks.

Using the orbital for a polish and sealant...thats what did me in.

I need a lift, so I can raise the car to do the side panels

Does it also remove the little rust blooms that accompany the rail dust .. Clay removes the rail dust easy but the brown stain is another story.

I actually don't know the answer to that question....
But supposedly, it is supposed to do everything a clay does

I guess one could should use IronX if the Nanoskin doesn't.

It's just that Nanoskin is so much easier to use than clay.

I asked the question in Autogeek and the response I have received was that both clay and nanoskin will remove iron contaminants.

Ya same answer I got but iron contaminants and the brown stain are 2 different things . I can clay off the iron filing in 3 seconds so the surface is butter smooth but that brown iron oxide stain usually takes some polishing. I asked this same question to Detailers Domain in an e-mail .. didn't get a response.
