Starting An Investment

Well summer is here for me in a way since I won't have school till fall.
So I'm thinking about investing in a Porter Cable to remove all the rock chips/swirls/ small scratches, but the problem is I don't know where to get one. I'm open to suggestions for local stores and what the prices are. I'm hoping not to spend too much. Even thought I think they run for about $150 or so. And also if you could list what other products would I need would be great.

Thanks.

[oh I also used search but all I found was "use a PC," but that really didn't clear much]

And when all done wash/dry correctly or the swirls all come back.

i just checked that coastaltool site, they have the pc on sale for 99 bucks...thats a steal, i still like the udm, but for a 50 dollar savings, you could buy pads and polish for about what it would cost for a udm....

$99 doesn't come with a backing plate.

And to be honest with you until they sort out the brush issue with the UDM etc. its hard to recommend them . I'm on my 3rd now. One lasted just a few cars.

My PC has been chugging along for 4 years now.

yea, i dont understand why the pc doesnt come with a backing plate....you cant use the thing with out one....other than that crappy white pad that comes with it....

i hope my udm doesnt crap out on me, i got it back in march, and have used it a little more than 2 full times....at the rate i will use it, i might use it 2 more times in the first full year when my warranty expires...if it craps out right after that, vinnie is going to be pissed....

on another note, my friend has a pc that i have used before, and it crapped out on him after about one year and 5 uses....so they are prone as well, but i suspect not as much as the udm....

Yeah they both have issues I suppose......Im on my 3rd PC, while the UDM is over a year or so old, and still running out of the box perfect......Go figure....
PerfectShine is hoping to release the second round of UDM's sometime around the end of July, if all of the original UDM's are sold.

It's $115.00 with backing plate and counter weight:

Still looks like a good deal

Don't get me wrong on the UDM .. its a great machine .. does a wonderful job and the customer service is great ..

But the first one that failed was replaced with a refurbished one with the same manufacturing date and it failed after a month and it was replaced with another one from the same manufacturing date. If the third fails .. then what?

I'm just fortunate I have the PC as a backup.

And they are not releasing the newer version till after the bad lot is sold? Which means more possible faulty units out there yet.

To me after the 2nd failure they should be replacing them with the newer version.

if you using other pads attached onto the white pad that came with the pc your not getting the full performance of the machine...you need to get yourself a backing plate and some pads and you are in business....

Sorry but I forgot what the thread was and even though I started this. Thanks for all the help guys.

I think I'm going to get http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/S...215667610#cart

but I don't know what else do I need to do to get all those swirls and scratches off from the dealership. Since its a black car its pretty noticeable.

If you guys could also supply the pads or products I should buy as well. Never done this process before but won't be my last.

I don't care for that deal...mainly because I don't like CCS pads. I've never used the aftermarket cleaning products (some dawn, water and scrubbing with your fingers will get them just as clean).

I bought mine from autopia.org last year. At that time, if you signed up as a member on their site (free) - you got a 20% discount, which was huge on the machine (credit goes to lusid for finding that deal). Check it out, I think they still might offer discounts for signing up (you get a code in your email shortly there after).

Then, I went to Pat (exceldetail.com) for all my accessories / products.

Well Autopia has a porter cable for $160. The auto geek runs about $190 and costatool without any supplies is $115 I believe. It's pretty much a matter if the package from autogeek is worth it or not

Yeah I guess I'll check out detailersdomain. I was wondering if those codes still work, but guess I'll find out at the end. And to remove all those little minor scratches and swirls what kinda pads should I use?
Would the
2 Pack CCS Pad 4 inch Orange (Light Cutting)
2 Pack CCS Pad 4 inch White (Polishing)
PC
3.5" Dual Action Flexible Backing Plate do the job?
