so many different methods?

so I've read alot of different car care method by different people. The wash, dry, and clay are pretty much the same. But the PC parts vary by people. Is this preference or how badly the paint needs it?

what would be an example of the difference between PC detailing of:
1. a 10+ year old car with a lot of swirls and some noticeable scratches
2. a 5 year old car with some swirls and light scratches
3. a 1 year old (or less) car with very little swirls and just needs protection
(if possible, could the examples include exceldetail's products, as I'm planning to order in the future )

I'll take a stab at your question. If I'm wrong the guys can correct me. What kind of car are you trying to detail? Depending on the manufacture some are easier than other. It also depending on the condition of the car.

1)
-2 passes of Optimum Compound at speed 5 with orange pad (may require yellow pad)
- 1 pass of Optimum Polish at speed of 3 with white pad

2)
Same as above

3)
-1-2 passes of Optimum PoliSeal with white pad

Optimum Polish at 3 on a white pad isn't going to do a lot of anything .. you need 4.5 or better.

Hyper compound with a yellow pad on selected scratches , Mix of Hyper & Compound on an orange pad as required followed by Polish on a white pad
2. a 5 year old car with some swirls and light scratches
As above
3. a 1 year old (or less) car with very little swirls and just needs protection

Polish on a white pad followed by Poliseal and a sealant.
Posted in bold... these are just estimates .. there isn't a standard routine .. it all depends on the car/condirion ... BTW Clay bar before any of this .

thanks for the replies and advice.
And as for car manufacturer, most of my family/friends have Japanese cars, the ones I plan on detailing. I think i read somewhere that Japanese manufacturers have "soft paint/clearcoat"? I might be wrong.
