Scratch removal

Hey all,

How would I go about removing this scratch. It looks like it's only in the clear coat (and not that deep) but when I rubbed it with my finger I can feel the groove. Any suggestions? I can't attach photos so it's on photobucket. Thanks

Get some compound.

Also, you might want to repost this in the Wash & Wax section. You'll get more advice over there.

What kind of wax should I use?

+1 for scratchx used for for minor scratches when i'm parked next to other idiots who are too fat to get out of their car and so they have to push their door against my car.

I've used ScratchX 2.0 as well, its from Meguiars. Nothing is going to get out the deep stuff, but it'll make it look less obvious.

scratch-x does an ok job at covering up fine scratches...unfortunatley, acura paint seems to scratch easily. just be aware of the crap paint we have to deal with when parking, etc.

good luck with the fix tho! let us know what you end up doing.

I used scratchX 2 as you guys suggested it and it did a pretty good job. Didn't take it out all the way but definitely can't notice it if you don't know that it's there. Thanks a lot. I waxed it this past weekend and it rained like crazy here last night. Still it looks nice. Took the second pic today...

if the scratch x made a dent in it, then move on to something more agressive...if you have a machine it would help, but you could probably remove it by hand...try a more agressive polish/pad combo

wax doesnt remove scratches...wax is for protection, polish is for polishing...

I did use a rotary buffer. It's ok now as it doesn't bother me any more but if I decided to go with something more aggressive, what would be the next level up?

I borrowed it from a neighbor that has a body shop. If I remember correctly, it was a Dewalt, and I used it at 1000 RPMs on metal and when I did the bumper I was using less speed regulating it with the power button. I don't know about the pad but it was sheep skin I believe and it was real full/thick.

I believe it was this polisher.

You can use Ultimate Compound as it is a lot more aggressive than ScratchX

Would it be safe to use the compound after the scratchX? I don't want to melt the clear coat.
