ive used Naval Jelly on other rusted things beside a car.
it worked!

Dont know the dangers of Naval Jelly on automotive paint tho...
it might eat the paint.

The only rust destroying product in an easy-to-use spray can
Converts rust to a neutral surface, prevents new rust from forming

Use for iron railings, automobiles, lamp posts, mail boxes, patio furniture and more

it says automotive so it might be ok lol

fiberglass pen may help as well

or have a dealer look at it, they have touch up guys do their certified cars
and they are pros at just that, fixing nicks
usually not terribly expensive and good looking repairs

I wonder if some Permatex Rust Remover Gel on a Q tip would work. It dries primer black and kills the rust, I've used it underneath cars, just never on or next to paint.

Rust is like cancer. I personally think the only way to properly treat and prevent is removing it completely. It won't be long (if it hasn't started already) that the metal around the "chips" has started to oxidize as well. Then your paint will bubble in random sports, and you will be really screwed.

I've never used naval jelly,so maybe it will work, who knows? But from personal experience. Rust needs to be treated properly,& quickly.

This is what I've always heard too. I'm no body work expert but I think it's safe to assume the metal is compromised further than just the spot you see where the rock chip is.

The good news is that I've had luck with simple fixes. An Accord I owned previously had a couple rock chips like you mention. I simply put touch up paint on them to minimize the damage and that pretty much kept them contained for the 7 years I had the car.

Good luck!

fine grit sand paper to get most of the rust, then fill with touch up paint.

i try to attend to the bigger chips as soon as i see them or before winter.

^^the upside...on silver the touch up paint spots blend in really well. we have a silver accord...you can't even tell unless it's a certain angle in the sunlight. darker paint...you start to see some dots.

Silver is generally hard to blend, but I agree, in small areas it hides it well. NBP is the best for touch ups, they literally disappear.

have numerous rock chips but no rust. Gave up trying to fix them with all the driving I do. It still looks great and I get lots of compliments.

If you have a darker car with the galaxy look, i would just keep your car waxed and use a quick wax often.

When getting new paint, it takes 30 days to cure. Touch up shouldn't be as big of a deal as it shrinks over a much smaller area. I'd wait at least two weeks before sealing it in with a sealant, coating, or wax.
