Removing swirl and light scratces...
how do we do that without removing the paint clear coat?
I am so limited to what I can use now, becasue of the xzilon layer, but found this to have a (few) good review:
http://www.meguiars.com/estore/product_list.cfm?sectionname=Consumer%20(Meguiar's %20Brand)>Auto%20Paint%20Care>Car%20Polishes§i onID=11401
Will this safely remove scratches or it's just probably meaningless to even try without clay and a buffing machine?

Thats step 2 of the Megs 1-2-3 punch. A good over the counter trio for cars needing cleaning and brightening. Not real aggressive, and made for the DIY'r.
Step 1 is a paint cleaner (Non abrasive)
Step 2 the light polisher (light abrasives)
Step 3 is the liquid Nuba protection, (About 3-4 weeks protection)
"Paint cleaners" are non abrasive products.
Paint polishes contain abrasives to help level the vertical edges on swirls and scratches.
Your always better removing swirl and scratches via a PC/UDM.....
Can it be done by hand? About 25-50% of the scratches or swirls are normally removed/reduced, but it is very time and product consuming.

With your xzilon layer can you even do this without voiding the xzilon warranty?
And if you have swirls etc take the car back to the dealer and have the xzilon warranty take care of it .. thats what you paid the $500 for already.

I've used the Mother's 3-step process plus the clay bar to work on our dark green Accord with much success.
1) Wash car first
2) Clay bar the entire car
3) Use the pre-wax cleaner (step 1).
4) Use the sealer and glaze (step 2). This is the step where all the swirl marks and very light scratches practically disappear.
5) Apply pure carnuba wax (without cleaners).
Only issue is the carnuba was doesn't last long. When I want a long lasting "wax", I've used Rejex in the past year or so with much success..

I'm in complete agreement with Jess and Patrick. When using a polish of the abrasive nature, you risk removing the xzilon layer. Use a cleaner which absolutely does nothing for swirls or a glaze which will "fill" swirls temporarily or take it to the dealer or 3rd party who applied the treatment.
