Removing oxidation from engine

I bought a used '08 TL Type S and have been slowly detailing every inch of the car. I do all my own work on the car so I have OCD when it comes to keeping the engine bay as clean as possible. My problem is that I have lots of oxidation on the aluminum parts of the engine that I would like to clean. I rermember years ago there was an acid based spray for aluminum rims that would take oxidation right off with very little scrubbing. I am looking for something that won't harm the gaskets and hoses as well. Anyone out there have a secret tip to remove oxidation?

If I'm not mistaken you can use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water and a toothbrush
