Real wierd paint problem

ive had my 03 tls since the summer of 2007 and have waxed it once a month since ive had it. theres a few spots on my car that are smaller than a dime but in that little area are all of these little cracks..is that oxidation??? rumors are honda/acura paints oxidize after some years. my car before this was a 94 lexus ls400 and the paint was immaculate and i take care of my acura just as much as i did the lexus.

this might be tree sap getting onto your paint...although instead if the cracks you describe...they're more like random ridges. I've seen these spot on a friend's car.

but to be sure, try to get some pics of the spots

I've got an '02 TL-S and don't have anything like this. And no Oxidation.

Sounds like a special case, not a general problem.

Have a picture by chance? To me it sounds like the beginning of clear coat failure.

I disagree, Acura paint is very good. No car is going to handle tree sap well. I would suggest you put a coat or two of synthetic sealant on it (after washing it of course). I used meguiars 21 for the first time recently and can speak highly of its ease of use and protection (water literally won't stay on the car).

what is meguiars 21, does it help with clear coat failure, mine just started to crack on the roof and the paint under it is fine, some signs of whats probably oxidation on the hood. I'm so pissed that I may have to get the whole car painted for this. I took it to a paint shop and the manager said it's a shame since the rest of the car is almost like glass. It's juniper pearl green.

Megs #21 is a sealant ... nothing will help clear coat failure.

Before doing something extreme like repainting post a couple of pics. It really may be minor and only require a good polish.

not sure about a little polish, you can actually see where the clearcoat has chiped a little. My car has so much wax on it that the paint shop guy said it's going to be a job in it self getting down to the metal, not sure how true this is as I don't know anything about painting.

That really sounds like a lot of bull to me. How hard would it really be to get down to the metal?

To be quite frank, I'd stray away from the paint shop you're referring to if they're telling you statements like that. They obviously don't know what they're talking about and are loading you with BS just so that they can take your money. Hell, I can easily take your car to metal with some sandpaper.

thanks for your input, i'll take it somewhere else to have it done. Any ideas of what a good paint job will cost? And does anyone have any idea of a good product to get that new look back to chrome rims, someone suggested liquid clay but not sure about that, I normally just use the ntx car wash on them.

Liquid Clay is a wast of time & money ... if they are real chrome use NeverDull then a good sealant.

Yup, sounds like clear coat failure. I worked on a Blue Cls that had this same problem. Little circles with cracks inside. Good Luck
