RE: repairing chips on paint

I saw that someone had brought up this topic, but just some of the process that i don't quite understand.

1. What is the spec, brand, or grade, that I should look for when buying the sand paper thats suppose to do the first step of sanding off the affected area ?

2. It seems to me kind of scary to sand the car's paint, do i realy have to ?? =-(

3. I have tried using the acura's touch up paint bottle, it totallly disappointed me. I didn't know, i just used their brush, and the colour is off, and the result is so rough!

4. So in total, how many different types of sand paper would i need for the various stages.

Any info would be appreciated.
