They cost a lot more than that.

Usually they charge like $200 for shipping to advertise the price lower.

And then add tax.

I still get a good deal considering all factors.

I'm not quite sure where you get your pricing but for me, the going rate on a brand new CF hood is $350 for any CF hood. Anything more than that is really too pricey but if that's how much you want to pay, I can't stop you.

No way...not even close can you get a new hood for $350.

I have a VIS carbon fiber hood...going rate is $750 not including tax or shipping.

Direct rate from VIS is $750.

http://www.visracing.com/newcatalog/...bon-Fiber-Hood

eBay listing is $480 + $175 shipping = $655

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-01...1%7C240%3A1318

You will not find a better deal then that on a real carbon fiber hood for a CL...I promise you.

You must be thinking of civics or integras...they don't make these pieces with as much frequency and there is really only one manufacturer so they have a monopoly.

Secondly, never use a buffer on a CF hood? I don't believe that, especially without any due explanation of how the CF hood turns brown.
From what I've read, the hood turns brown when the clear coat fails, which is a common problem for VIS hoods, maybe people buffing buff the cc off?

Yeah...I am not sure.

One of the guys who was helping me actually had a carbon fiber hood on his Infinity G35 so I tended to believe him since he had one as well.

LoL, well I know why but I wanted to hear if the shop could explain it. There are a lot of shops that explain what happens in certain situations with products but not all of them know the reasoning behind it.

Hello to all...

I'm taking Friday off before a big car meet to restore my poor carbon fiber hood.

I've got hazing and UV damage all over the hood.

So I started prepping a test spot to find my formula for restoring the finish.

It's heavily swirled and has a milky, splotchy haze all over it...

What I have to tackle the job is:

* PC 7424

* 3.5" backing plate

* 4" Black

* 4" White

* 4" Red

* 4" Orange

* 4" Yellow

* Optimum Compound

* Optmum Poli-Seal

* UFSE

* FS UPP

* 1000, 1500, 2000 grit sandpaper

Can anybody please shed some light on what I can do to have some success in my restoration?

I did start with a test spot and wasn't able to achieve full correction.

I did find another great thread on this forum about hood restoration but it involves different equipment and materials.

I'm somewhat new to detailing...please help if you can.

Thanks,

Noah

Current condition: Before any work, as you can see it's in poor shape.

Noah,

When you did the test spot, did the situation approve at all? If it did, try doing a couple more passes.

Have you tried visiting an RV/Marine place? Their products might work better for resin.....just a thought.

I only read/scanned the first of this thread, so this might be a repeat question...lol

Did you determine if its on the paint or in the paint?

And did you try paint cleaners?

It did improve but the scratches are deep.

I had to do about 3-4 passes with 1000 > 1500 > 2000

It's a gel coat...I don't know if that makes any difference.

Paint cleaners have been ruled out...it has to be wet-sanded and re-cleared.

Okay...forget this.

I'm just going to start a new thread because there is too much information to sift through.
