Question on Detailing Tires

Quick question for y'all:

What do you guys use to detail your tires to give you that wet look? I'm currently using tire foam from armor all but have been looking at getting some swissvax as well. Also, what do you guys use on your wheels? I've been told that regular soap and water will do but I'm using something a little more corrosive: P21 Tire Cleaner.

If you use Tuf-Shine then you only need mild soap. This stuff does not attract the dirt and grime like most other tire gels.

See bold above ..

On my tires I clean them occasionally with Westleys Bleech Wite and dress with any of the water based dressings. ( White ones )

Cleaning the wheels I just use the tail end of the car wash water and a dedicated mitt.

I find that a lot of people who have problems with their tire dressing (durability, sling, looks) don't prep the tires properly and they add the dressing on contaminated tires. I'll use a degreaser (like P21S Total Auto Wash or Poorboy's World Bio-APC) that's designed to clean rubber with a brush to help rid as much contamination as possible. This will allow your tires to absorb the dressing to it's fullest and maximize the durability.

When applying the dressing, I usually go for a few thin coats, rather than 1 thick coat. This will also help prevent the dressing from slinging up onto the paint.

Hope this helps.

George

Clean your tires first with a degreaser, I use Meguiar's APC+, then you can dress them.

For a matte look, I use 303 Aerospace. For a wet look, I use Opti-Bond Tire Gel, which is leaves a wet and glossy look and doesn't sling.
