Porter cable vs rotary

Ok heres the deal, I plan on doing some wetsanding and buffing and know that the "rotary" is the tool for the job. But im afraid the rotary will go to waste once im done with the job.

I know that the porter cable is good for perfection when it comes to shine and monthly or every six months make up work such as swirl correction and deep luster. But im afraid it wont do justice when I decide to wetsand and buff.

Im leaning towards getting a variable speed rotary.
What do you guys think? Porter cable or rotary?

PS i know im a newb at this but I catch on quickly so dont worry about me messing up my paint because I have a family friend who will "repaint" if I really mess it up LOL.

TIA

i'm a newb myself as well. if you haven't used a rotary before, I would recommend you use a PC/dual action instead. Since you said you're doing wetsanding, I'm assuming you at least know what you're doing and for that type of job, I think you pretty much need a rotary.

Be careful w/ the rotary if you haven't used one before as that is one heck of a machine and can burn your paint if you aren't careful.

I would recommend going with the PC. Depending on how bad the finish that you are working on the PC should be more than enough, as long as your using the appropriate compounds and pads.

You could always see if you could rent one nearby or find another zine member to loan you theirs.

I have both and the rotary pretty much gets broken out when I do somebody else's car.

You would be surprised how well the PC works.
