Porter Cable 7424 or 7336??????????

I am about to purchase a porter cale random orbit polisher to detail my car i was initially going with a 7424 package deal but i have now come across a PC 7336 package that includes a counterweight, the site detailers paradise states that i need a counterweight if i want to use non oem pads with the PC. My question is if i am going with a package deal are the included pads non oem and if so do i then need to purchase the 7336 in order to use the pads?????? I am also wondering if the 7424 comes pre-balanced for the pads included in the package for that model and if there is any added benefit in getting the 7336 over the 7424? Any help or response would be greatly appreciated.

The 7336 s/p comes standard with the 6" CW. This is all you need when running larger pads (7") with the larger 6" backing plate. You will need a backing plate when you purchase either 7424 or 7336. The white pad that comes with the machine, is really of little use, as it is directly glue to the backing plate provided. I have always informed users if your using the 5" BP, use a 5" CW, and likewise with the 6" BP.....

upon further examination i believe the 7424 comes with a 5CW included and the 7336 comes with a 6CW which would you recomend?. thanks for the response you were exactly the person i was hoping to get a reply from, FYI i am ordering some stuff from your site (which is excellent i might add) i know i am kissing a little ass but you have good products, by the way is it redundant to use klasse all in one and Universal Paint cleaner? ( i was going to use UPC then KAIO then KSG then P21s or the Pinnacle stuff cause it's geared towards dark colors, mine is NHB) oh and where in there would i use the swirl remover or with use of those products is it not necessary, and yes i just clayed about 3 weeks ago, thanks again!!!!!!!!

I was exactly in same cituation and posted the same qtn in Autopia. I bought the 7424 thinking it comes with the CW. (It's not here yet being shipped right now.) Do I need a CW? I've bought Sonus DAS pads and will be using with Zaino Z-PC with Green Pad and Z2 with Blue.

The SR is a polish with abraisive properties to clean as well as remove minor swirls and surface deformities. AIO/UPC are non-abaraisive products. The SR is used after claying, same as the AIO/UPC. If your surface is pretty much swirl free, you could probably skip the SR. You can then use the AIO/UPC as a base for the SG and the P21S as an LSP, should you so desire.

Your correct in model accessories, and thanks for the compliment about the site. Its a long ways from where I wish it to be, but thank you nonetheless, its appreciated.
Actually, the Ultimate Paint Cleaner in conjunction with the AIO is a little overkill, there designed to both do the same thing, however AIO will offer some protection, which is unecessary if your sealing anyway. If your protecting with a Nuba, then AIO would be a better option. Once the Nuba degraded, you would still have some Acrylic protection. But sealing with a Polymer, the AIO really isnt going to offer a whole lot of additional protection. I would imagine (if your like most others) you would offer additional protection to the cars surface before it "actually" requires it.
The AIO is really best for consumers who want "ALL in One" protection. (The best protection for the least amount of work). Meguiars version for DIY'ers would be #6 (Cleaner/wax).
If you have any type of swirls, you should really consider using a swirl mark remover. (Ultimate Swirl Mark Remover) AIO is not designed, at least chemically, to remove swirls. Its doesnt contain abrasives.
Nattys Blue would be wonderful for your color, there has been some comparisons to Nattys Blue and P21S, with a slight edge to Nattys for depth, and surprisingly decent durability. But if your using SG, durability shouldnt be an issue. Great stuff, just difficult to work with.

Cool. I bought the Sonus DAS kit which comes with 5" plate.

I bought my PC from Amazon for $119.99 and think that 7336 would have been a better deal. It's available at Lowe's from $93-99 depending on time and it comes with 6" counter weight as I understand NOW. There is virtually no diff in these two models except for 5" Vs. 6" CW and some accessories which you'll never need.

thanks for the help excel and haw, i am very anal and will probably use both the upc then kaio then sr then ksg then natty's (upon further examination of your site i noticed that natty's is great for dark colors). I really enjoy waxing by hand so after i get the pc i'm sure i'll love it even more. if you see that i am applying the swirl remover at the wrong point, after cleaner before sealant, then please let me know. Thanks again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am still a little confused though, on autopia the pc 7424 kit comes with a 6" inch backing plate, does this mean it also includes a 6" counterweight b/c i thought that the counterweight had to correlate to the size of the backing plate. is that right or am i confusing myself and will a 6" backing plate work with the porter cable the way it is straight out of the factory?

If thats the way they sell it, you'll be ok. The 7424 comes with the 5" CW. The folks I buy PC accessories from have conveyed to me that when using larger BP's, and pads, you should take advantage of the larger CW. So, thats what I recommend also. Its worked for me for the past several yrs so I stick with it. Does it make any significant difference? I dont know for sure, Ive never used the 5" CW, as I switched mine when I bought it....For $2.00, its peice of mind, thats all.....

getright, here's the info on what you should know about counterweights. As excel said the 7424 comes with the 5" CW. I would get the 6" CW, inexpensive, not hard to change over and may come in handy. As far as pad colors and sizes go, refer to this link.
