PC tips
PC tips
i got my PC and some meg pads. this past weekend i tried using it the first time with some #83 and #80 and i didn't get the results i was lookin for
i used #83 with a cutting pad and also tried a polishing pad and the #80 with a polishing pad and also tried the finishing pad. i worked the product from left to right up and down start on speed 5 and moved it to 6. on 6 i worked till where i was still able to see a thin layer of the product then buffed off with a MF towel.
since i didnt get the results i was lookin i was wondering if anyone can give me tips like how much pressure i should use, combos of pads and products, speeds i should use, and how long i should work on each panal for a swirled car
hopefully this would be able to help me and others that is new to using a PC or thinkin about getting one

First off 83 is not the right product to be learning with. It can be difficult to the ineperienced, and lend to dissapointment and frustration. Go with lighter cutting products, become more familiar with proper techniques, and characteristics of products. Become familiar with pad capabilities, feel, and firmness. In other words, play around a little first! 83 really needs to be worked to practically nothing. You also have to find the right amt for the pad. I usually work a left/right at 3-4, up/down at 4-5, then a final pass, left/right at 6. My last pass is also a buffing pass.

www.bettercarcare.com has a great PC article.
But I'm w/ patrick #83 can be a tricky one, I still have frustration with it at times. Maybe try #80

Im assuming the turtle wax buffer is an orbital. It says 3200 RPMS but I assume they are talking about the motor and not that actual RPM's that pads are spinning. It looks like the cheapie ones at Walmart. If its the same one, then you are def missing out on what capabilities a PC has. One the PC can go up to 6000OPM's which is great for polishing. The walmart ones bog down under pressure a great amount, while the PC still bogs is a little less then the cheaper ones. Plus the PC has the ability to use adapters to have different pads used with it. I dont know if you can actually change the backing plate on the turtle wax one.
The Turtle wax buffer , is to the PC,
as Kit wax is to Four Star UPP.
lol, Kia to Ferrari.
Crazy Sellout, do yourself a favor and order the PC kit with pads. You wont regret it. Do a few payed details here and there and you will break even with all the cost. I use a rotary for most of my details but a PC is still involved with every single one of them. Great investment.

More PC Questions
I recently picked up this new toy:

and will be ordering this in a few days:
http://www.properautocare.com/hipadkitwive.html
Kit includes:
One velcro backing plate
One orange pad
Two white pads
One red finishing pad
Three MF towels
My question is:
does the foam pad that came with my PC kit do me any good?
Should I just stick with the backing plate kit above and go that route, or should I try to find pads/bonnettes that work with the white pad (shown above) that came with the machine?
I haven't read much about the PC WITH the pad that comes with, so I was just wondering if it is worthless or not.
Thanks!
B

If the PC came with a 6" pad, you have the 6" counterweight. My 7424 came with a 5" pad and 5" counterweight. I had to get the 6" one.

It'll be well worth your $$$ if you want to keep your car looking its best. Basically, for the price of one or two professional details, you could go out and buy all you need to do it yourself for years!
Besides, you gotta keep the car looking good with those new rims.

I bought a Porter-Cable a couple of weeks ago from Lowes for $93 and I had a 10% off coupon. I bought a flexible back plate and Lake Country pads from www.topoftheline.com.
Using a PC makes a big difference in removing swirls and getting a mirror like shine.

I used Menzerna products so I kept the PC at high speed and the end result was fantastic ...
Just an example or two:
